In loving memory of Margaret Veira APRIL 11, 1958 - JANUARY 18, 2026 Margaret Veira, 67, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on January 18, 2026, surrounded by family. Margaret, who was fondly called “Cecile” by her loved ones, was instrumental in shaping the lives of her family members and her community as a matriarch, and a schoolteacher. She was known for her kind and gentle nature, and gave quietly, steadily, and without condition. Her impact will live on through the lives she shaped. She will be fondly remembered. From her early days, Margaret was always full of hope for her friends, family, and community. She had a special gift for teaching. Little did we know how well her light would shine. Her calm presence and generous heart touched everyone she met. Margaret was born on April 11, 1958, in Stubbs Village, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where she completed her early education. Margaret especially appreciated the years she spent at Carapan Government School where she earned a school leaving certification. Later, she attended the Stubbs Teachers’ Training Center. In 1977, Margaret, her parents, and siblings moved to St. Croix, USVI. During her time on St. Croix, she attended The University of the Virgin Islands, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in education. She served as a schoolteacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School, St. Dunstan’s Episcopal School, and Lew Muckle Elementary School. She touched many children’s lives. Margaret was a stern but loving schoolteacher. Her children, Alicia, Omani, and Kyle, and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. Known for her unconditional love, she was the heartbeat of her family, teaching them the meaning of kindness and resilience through her gentle example. In 2003, Margaret moved to Atlanta, Georgia to reside close to her brother and sisters living in Georgia. Margaret served as a schoolteacher at Fairington Elementary School, DeKalb County School System. She was loved by all, a caring person. She spent countless hours planning and preparing lesson plans for her students. In 2021, Margaret decided to retire from a teaching career which spanned over 40 years. She shared a love for cooking and would make big meals for family and friends. She welcomed everyone to her home. It was a warm and welcoming place. Margaret spent most of her retired years with her daughter Alicia, her sons Omani and Kyle, her grandchildren T’yana, O’Sahni, Sheneque, Jahni, Maxwell, Margaret, Mason, and Croix. Margaret is preceded in death by her mother, Cynthia Veira; her father, Samuel Veira; her brothers, Israel Veira Sr., Maxwell Veira, Dillon Winston Veira, and McWilson Veira; her sister, Jennifer Veira; and her nephew, Francois Veira. Margaret Veira is survived by her daughter Alicia Veira-Joseph (Steve Joseph); her sons, Omani Adolphe, and Kyle Allen; her grandchildren, T’yana Joseph , O’Sahni Joseph, Sheneque Adolphe, Jahni Adolphe, Maxwell Adolphe, Margaret Adolphe, Mason Adolphe, and Croix Allen; her great grandchildren, Jalen and Jahlysia Knight; her sisters, Valerie Williams (Lennox Williams), Ursula Jones (Dennis Jones), Lorna Veira-Pierre (Leon Pierre), Florina Veira-Corbett (Rudolph Corbett), Judianna Freeman (Kerry Freeman), Mishka Veira, and Suden Nadia Graham (Gary Graham), Marcia John, Samantha Veira-DaCosta (Dwayne DaCosta); her brothers, Eldred Fitzgerald Veira (Chantal Veira) and Julian Veira (Elizabeth Hodge), Samuel Veira, Jr., Desmond Veira, Hugh Veira, Kert Quashie, and Albert King Veira; her nieces and nephews, Rodney, Derron, Derissa, Daynelle, Andy, Israel Jr., Brian, Jerome, Andre, Brandon, Shinique, Terell, Shantal, Alain, Adail, Jamaal, Hermus Jr., Christopher, Franton, Keziah, Olivia, Madeline, Layla, Aylah, Jahyla, Jaleel, Anea, Monifa, Julian Jr., Kyora, Justice, Tenkarra, Deneilo, Tionee, Johnia, Josai, Caleb, Kareyanna, Karey Jr., Zion, Braylon, Brycen, and Blake; numerous aunts and uncles, grand nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends, too numerous to mention Visitation will be held Friday ,February 6, 2026 from 4pm-8pm at our South Dekalb Chapel 4347 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur GA 30034.
