Lloyd G. Johnson

LLOYD GENE JOHNSON was born on August 2, 1948 in Memphis, TN to a loving and large family with Mississippi roots. Lloyd started his young life as an entrepreneur. He was drafted to the US Army in May 1971 during the Vietnam War. Lloyd was stationed in Germany, Fort Ord in Northern, California, Fort Bragg in Kentucky and Fort Jackson in South Carolina. Lloyd received a variety of awards, ribbons and recognitions, including the Overseas Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal, followed by an Honorable Discharge. Lloyd was a hardworking and devoted father who adored his children. He was a proud Purdue Dad and Boilermaker, watching Purdue and Big Ten sports regularly with his children. Lloyd was proud of his son and daughter’s academic accomplishments, as education was important to him. He was so proud to tell anyone who would listen that his children were proud alumni of Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Lloyd was a loving brother, uncle and friend who enjoyed having a good time laughing and joking with his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews during family holidays and gatherings. Lovingly known as “Jake” and a “gentle giant,” he loved his family and was proud to be a big brother and “Uncle Lloyd Gene.” To carry on his legacy, Lloyd leaves behind his beloved son and daughter, granddaughters, brothers, sisters and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, colleagues and grand puppies who he loved. We will always cherish and adore you, Lloyd. Rest well in the Lord’s presence until we meet again…… Lloyd’s Legacy and Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 10:30AM at Saint Philips AME Church, Rev. Clyde Jeans, Officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5th from 6-8PM at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, located at 4347 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur, GA 30034.
