Leslie Sangster

Leslie D. Sangster entered this life on April 5, 1926, in Kingston, Jamaica to the late Susan Shirley and into eternity on October 2, 2020. He was also predeceased by his sister, Gloria Frazier, with whom he shared a special bond with throughout their lives. While in Jamaica, Leslie was a successful business man who owned a woodworking shop before becoming involved in several other successful business ventures. However, it was while he owned a grocery store in New Jersey when he attended a wedding of friend and was introduced to his future and beloved wife, Mary Jones Sangster. After years of courtship, Mary finally and happily accepted his proposal and wed, and had their cherished son, Leslie “Darryl” Sangster a year later. Leslie was also a world traveler, living not only in Jamaica, but also in London for several years before moving permanently to the United States. He was a savvy entrepreneur which afforded him and Mary to travel to 6 out of the 7 continents in this world in addition to providing a beautiful home and life to his wife, son and countless family members. Leslie was also a talented craftsman, designing and creating amazing furniture pieces for his personal homes and businesses as well as others. Without a doubt, Leslie had an active and fulfilled life. He had tremendous love for his family and if anyone ever needed anything, he would provide whatever assistance he could to help them. Leslie was intelligent, disciplined, hardworking and courageous. His life was ample proof that one can overcome adversity and become a champion to many. He lived with dignity and dedicated his life to his Savior, Jesus Christ and was a member of Calvary Mennonite Church in Inglewood, California and most recently at Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Lilburn, Georgia, which he attended and gave to faithfully. Remembering Leslie Sangster with loving gratitude, he leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mary J. Sangster, son, Leslie “Darryl” Sangster (Tamika), two (2) grandsons, Levi Sangster and Alexander “Xan” Sangster, nieces Donna Rowtham and Sheika Pettigrew, cousins Claudette “April” Shirley, Byron “Dezi” Shirley, Barry Shirley, Pauline Lawrence Shirley and Patricia “Patsy” Austin, Goddaughter Reneta Branch, Godson Freddie Branch and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
