Leonard D. Brown

Leonard Donald Brown was born on April 2, 1930 and made his transition on June 18, 2021. He is now reunited with his mother, Grace Cook, stepfather, Jasper Cook of Sutton Vermont and birth father Leonard Smith of Baltimore, Maryland. Leonard Donald Brown also affectionately known as “ Don” or “ Len” was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He grew up curious, precocious and had a love for big band jazz music and track and field. He graduated from Hope High School in Providence, Rhode Island in 1947. After, High School, Don decided to enlist in the U.S. Army where he served seven years of active duty including service in Korea during the Korean War. Upon leaving the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge, Don had a passion for academics and was accepted as one of few African Americans at Northeastern University School of Engineering. He received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959 but not before wedding “ The Love of His Life”, Gwendolyn K. Brown from Hartford Connecticut. The newlyweds lived in Boston, Massachusetts and received their first child, Craig Gordon Brown in the summer of 1960. Life progressed and employment opportunities moved them to Hartford, Connecticut. They received their second child, Michelle Kay Brown in the summer of 1964. A young couple and their family were in bloom. Don worked hard to grow his family as well as his career. His knowledge of his field of study as well his kind and patient nature propelled him up the ranks of Combustion Engineering. He was promoted into management and had a rewarding career, retiring after 24 years of service. Don and Gwen moved to the Atlanta area in 1987 to live closer to family. Don was given the opportunity to work for The Georgia Bureau of Investigations as A Computer Analyst He also had a rewarding career with The Bureau and retired in honorable standing in 1999. Don and Gwen shared 62 beautiful years of marriage together. They shared true love and best friendship. Don leaves his beloved “Gwen”. He also leaves his beloved Son, Craig Gordon Brown of Norfolk, Virginia and his Beloved daughter, Michelle Kay Brown of Snellville, Georgia. He leaves his beloved daughter in law, Donna Spinner Brown as well as his beloved grandchildren, Craig Johnson and family, Nathan Brown and family, Tiffany Brown and Denisha Brown and family. He also leaves a host of extended family and close friends. Don’s love for life, his family and friends will always be remembered. He will never be forgotten. He is “The True Measure of a Great Husband, Father and Friend”. You were, are and will forever be loved! Celebration of Life Mr. Leonard D. Brown will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2021, 11am in our Gwinnett Chapel. Burial at Georgia National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 9am-11am at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home, 914 Scenic Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA., 30045
