Leisa Renae Powers

Leisa Renae Powers (née Brown) was born on August 30, 1963 in Atlanta, Georgia, the sixth of nine children to Gutherean Brown and Robert Edward Brown. She drew her last breath in Atlanta and transitioned to be with the Lord on February 10, 2025. Leisa lived a vibrant life in those 61 years. She graduated from Decatur High School (class of 1982), where she was on the drill team, played clarinet in the marching band, and met the person who would become the love of her life – Anthony Powers. In between working her way through college at Georgia State University and marrying Tony, Leisa was quietly and humbly cultivating the life in which she wanted to bloom. She was a self-proclaimed “Night Owl” who taught herself the early programming languages that would land her a job with Cox Enterprises, Inc. While Tony built a home within the Ace Hardware walls, Leisa was building up her nest at Cox and the two lovebirds welcomed two daughters: Diondra Danielle Powers on March 14, 1993 and Alexandra Nicole Powers on February 16, 1996. Leisa continued thriving at Cox for the next 40 years, retiring in February 2021. Leisa’s retirement was filled with flowers, flights, and family! She spent from 2021 to 2025 slowing things down and living more mindfully – hanging out with her husband and siblings, her daughters, and her dog Sam. She enjoyed drawing, gardening, traveling, spending time with friends, and trying new vegan food. Throughout all of her retirement adventures, Leisa fought her breast cancer battle with grace and dignity. Her last trip with Tony was by far her favorite: an Alaskan cruise where she got to go whale-watching, garden gallivanting, and spend time with her husband in God’s creation. Leisa was preceded in death by her father, Robert; mother, Gutherean; older sister, Gutherrean ‘Dip’ Peeples; and older brother Larry Martin. Leisa is survived in life by her husband, Tony; daughters Di and Alex; siblings Juanita Williams (Greg), Evelyn Meertins (Burchmore), Robert Brown, Deborah Brown-Reid, Darien Brown (Sonya), and Antonio Brown (Kentria); mother-in-law Barbara Powers; sister-in-law Tammy Thomas; nieces and nephews Jay Peeples (Rebecca), Kristy Nix (Jay), Kristopher Williams (Tiffany), Henry ‘Blake’ Lewis, Serina Lewis-Everett (Gordon), Jeremy Reid (Wanda), D.J. Brown, Kayla Brown, Ian Brown, Avery Brown, and Brianna Bryant; and great-nieces and nephews Trey Peeples, Clifford Peeples, William Peeples, Ella Nix, Eli Nix, Danielle Nix, Shawn ‘Solomon’ Salmon, Kaitlyn Williams, June Reid, and Inari Lewis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests to send donations to the Decatur Education Foundation in honor of Mrs. Leisa Powers. Services entrusted to Gregory B.
