Lascelles St. Clare Martin

On Monday June 17, 2024 Lascelles St. Clare Martin, affectionally known as Ken, loving husband and father of five children, brother and friend passed away at the age of 84 in Decatur Georgia. Lascelles St. Clare Martin (Ken) was born on November 1, 1939 in Duncans Trelawny, Jamaica to Helena Gray and Harold Martin. He migrated to the United States and lived in New York for many years. He also lived in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Maryland. Before migrating to the United States, Ken was a proud member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force for over seven years. Ken loved learning and was an ardent student. He dedicated time to study when he arrived in the US, achieving the educational level of Master of Science in Education. He taught in the New York public school system for many years. In his later years, he also taught in the Washington DC public school system. Ken loved God with all his heart and had a deep, abiding faith in his Lord and Creator. This is what fortified him during the many challenges he encountered over the years. He never doubted the goodness of God and took every opportunity to express his faith in Him. Ken believed in the power of prayer and was often called upon to pray for friends and family members. One of Ken’s greatest achievements was authoring the book entitled “How important is blood to GOD?” Ken was preceded in death by his parents, wife Claudette, son Leo, sisters Beryl, Lola and Masie, brothers Harold Jr. (Dick), Vin and Lawrence. He is survived by daughters Dawn, Lorn and Coral, son Louis, brother Donald, sisters Gwyneth, Jean and Rosemarie, daughter-in-law Rehab, grandchildren Geormain, Connie, Naomi and Jericho, great grandchildren Jomarri, Skylar, Jrue and Eloni, numerous nieces and nephews. Ken’s life truly exemplified the apostle Paul’s reflection on his own life in 2 Timothy 4:7 which reads, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” We all miss Ken dearly.
