Larry Griffith

Larry L. Griffith was born in Decatur, Georgia on August 31, 1953 to Albert Griffith and Lillie Simon Griffith. At an early age, he accepted the Lord and was baptized under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Benjamin Gay of Antioch AME Church in Decatur, Georgia where he remained a lifelong member. He was raised in the Kirkwood community and graduated from Murphy High School in 1971. During his high school years, he enjoyed playing baseball and football. Shortly after graduation he began his career with Southern Bell/Bellsouth/ATT as a Service Technician. After 40 years of service, he retired from ATT in 2012. Larry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was the life of the party! He enjoyed helping his loved ones. He was extremely creative, a natural handyman and worked in his yard with pride. His hobbies were woodworking and bowling. He was an avid and competitive bowler for numerous years in various leagues. He loved watching sports. He especially enjoyed watching his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. He loved to showcase his grilling skills with his famous BBQ ribs. As a devoted husband of 30 years to Robbie Merriweather Griffith, Larry found joy in spending time with his wife and making her laugh. His favorite mottos were “It could be just a little bit worser” and “…you are worrying about the wrong thang!”. He was born into a large family, the fifth child of eight. His large family and many friends could always count on him to be a listening ear and assist with tasks and projects. Larry was a devoted father to a loving daughter and two cherished sons. His life was defined by the love and guidance he provided to his children. A beacon of strength and warmth, his legacy will live on through the values he instilled in his children. Larry was preceded in death by his parents: Albert Griffith and Lillie Simon Griffith; brothers-in-law: Bennie Davis, Robert Richardson and nephew Alex Smith. The memories of Larry will always be cherished by his devoted wife: Robbie; children: Brannon Larry Griffith (Tami), Schaquana Jones Bates, and Jarrette Jones; siblings: Carl Griffith, Geraldine Davis, Michael (Pamela) Griffith, Barbara (Mitchell) Guinyard, Janice Richardson, Evelynette Griffith, Audrey (Bruce) Williams; brothers-in-law: James “JoJo” Jackson and Marvin Jackson; grandchildren: Larry Jr, Larente, Kameron, Jairys, Taylor, Serenity, and Jeremey; great grandchildren: Larry III, LaNiya Bella, Malachi, and Latrell; nieces and nephews: Tammy, Bernard, Alton, Anthony, and Sharla (Donovan); close family friends: Brady Floyd and Donald (Charlene) Newton and a host of dear extended family & friends. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
