Kenya Johnson-Hughley

Today we celebrate the beautiful life of Kenya Johnson-Hughley. Kenya was born on December 19, 1968 to Joyce Johnson and Randolph Newell in Brooklyn New York and was delivered to God on April 9, 2021 in Buford Georgia. Kenya grew up in Brownsville, New York and was a student in the Brooklyn public school system. She attended P.S 298 and MS. 61 Lefferts. She graduated from Boys and Girls High School. Kenya’s caring way with people allowed her to work in various customer services positions which include being an administrative assistant at Health and Hospital, followed by a career as a NYC Police Department’s 911 Operator. She then transitioned to One Police Plaza where she worked in the Pension division as a Police Administrative Assistant. In 2004 she relocated to New Castle, Delaware where she then became a property manager for Arbor Management. She later transitioned into the position of Correction Officer for the West Chester County Prison where she remained until August of 2009. Her final transition led her to relocate to Buford, Georgia where she worked as a Telecommunications specialist for Jacobs Global. Kenya’s warm and bubbly spirit always made people want to be around her. She always made people feel loved and welcomed. Kenya loved to entertain. She was always coordinating gatherings or barbeques. When you were at Kenya’s house, you knew that you were going to have amazing food and a lot of laughter. Kenya’s spirit immediately won the heart of her beloved husband, Paul. They celebrated their love in a marriage ceremony before family and friends on May 25, 2015. Kenya loved to entertain. Kenya loved her family and would do anything for them! She was the glue.. always bringing family members together. She wouldn’t hesitate to spend hours on the phone catching up with family or friends reminiscing about all the good times shared. She poured her heart and soul into her cooking and was always eager to try a new recipe on her family and friends. Her love for laughter was contagious. Kenya was very passionate and always eager to try a new adventure. She recently fell in love with graphic design and started her own T-shirt Business. Her catering career was sure to take off and Traveling Souls Catering she proudly talked about and looked forward to sharing her love food with the world. Kenya is survived by her beloved husband Paul Hughley, mother Joyce Johnson, children Shakira and Najae Johnson, grandchildren Kigee and Saria Johnson, siblings Emery Johnson, Randolph Jr. and Nechelle Newell, Kenny and Lisa Ramos and a whole host of family and friends. Kenya’s passing has left a significant hole in hearts but we are all comforted that she is with God.
