John Lewis Houston

ohn Lewis Houston, 80, passed away on March 4, 2026. He was born on October 25, 1945, in Roanoke, Alabama, to the late John Houston and Climmie Houston. John was a hardworking man who dedicated much of his life to construction and carpentry. He owned and operated his own construction company, J&D Construction, where he worked on jobs for his clients, and he also worked for Cosmo Management for over 20 years, earning the respect of coworkers and friends through his dedication and strong work ethic. With his skilled hands and commitment to his craft, he spent years building and repairing homes and structures, always taking pride in the work he left behind. Known for his strength, resilience, and quiet determination, John was someone who believed in getting the job done and helping others whenever he could. Outside of work, John was known for his generous heart, kind spirit, and loving nature. He could be a bit stubborn at times, but those who knew him best understood that it came from a place of strength and determination. John truly enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—watching wrestling, admiring classic cars, and most of all spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered not only for his craftsmanship but also for the many lives he touched throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his father, John Houston; stepfather, Josh Watts; son, Trent Baker; and brother, Sidney Houston. John leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Ceirra Staples and Katherine Staples; his wife, Darnell Staples; beloved grandchildren, Candis Baker, Kenyatta Hanson, Stetson and Domonique Thomas, Kaniyah Staples, Mackenzie, Mason, Madelynn, Mallorie, and Majonni Jennings; one great-grandchild, Klairety Staples; siblings, Alice Jean Houston of Johnston, South Carolina; Minnie Pearl Thomason of Decatur, Georgia; Larry Houston (Sun) of Waynesville, Missouri; Patsy Robertson of Carrollton, Georgia; Minnie Trammell of Wedowee, Alabama; and Mary Robertson of Carrollton, Georgia; bonus son, Brandon Jennings; and a host of extended family members and dear friends whose lives were touched by his presence and who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Through the work of his hands and the strength of his character, John built more than structures…he built a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication that will live on in those who knew him. God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, So He wrapped His arms around you and whispered, “Come with me.”
