Joan Gloria Farrar

Joan Gloria Farrar, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, was born on March 19, 1959, in Oranjestad, Aruba, to the late Angela Phillips and Thomas De Raveneau. The second of two children, she grew up alongside her sister, Anna. Joan spent her earliest years in Aruba and her formative years in Trinidad, where her vibrant spirit was shaped and her journey of faith, family, and education truly began. Guided by a strong Catholic faith, Joan lived with resilience, kindness, and grace throughout her life, and that devotion was most evident in the way she nurtured her family. In 1976, Joan married Edgar Gamory, and together they were blessed with three sons: Jamal, Joel, and Justin, whom she lovingly raised. In 1993, she married Felix Farrar, and they were blessed with her cherished only girl, Danielle. Joan’s devotion as a mother was unwavering; she poured her heart into nurturing, encouraging, and celebrating her children and, later, her grandchildren. Joan pursued her academic studies with determination, earning an Associate’s Degree in Business, a reflection of her belief in education and personal growth. She began her career with American Express and Marine Midland Bank. She later earned her real estate license in New York, a testament to her unshakable drive to grow and create opportunities. In her later years, Joan relocated to Atlanta, where she joined Delta Airlines. Never one to limit herself, she went on to embrace entrepreneurship in the mid-2000s, running a home remodeling business and a trucking company. In 2011, Joan joined her son and daughter-in-love at RE Global. She worked alongside them, offering her skills and steady presence as the business entered a new chapter. For Joan, work was never just about business; it was about standing with her family, supportive of their dreams and determined to see them thrive. Beyond her career and family, Joan lived a life full of passions and pursuits. She loved renovating homes, traveling the world, visiting more than a dozen countries, sewing with meticulous care, and creating elegant designs with patterns and stitching. She was also known for her impeccable fashion sense, always shining in sophisticated attire accented by her signature love of bling. Her warm smile, contagious laugh, and radiant presence lit up every room she entered. She carried herself with class, kindness, and joy, making everyone feel welcome and at ease. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Angela Phillips and Thomas De Raveneau, and her sister, Anna Castillo. She leaves to cherish her memory her four children: Jamal, Joel, and Justin Gamory, and her daughter, Danielle Farrar; her daughter-in-love, Dr. Tanesha Gamory; eight grandchildren: Stacia, Jonelle, Jasmine, Junay, Juvon, Jayden, Jade, and Jamilah; and one soon-to-be great-grandchild, Lennox De Raveneau. She is also survived by her niece Shawn Castillo, with whom she shared a sisterly bond, her nephew Junior, and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends, including Chris and Ingrid. Joan faced life with courage and dignity, even during her battle with stage 4 breast cancer. She fought long and hard, never allowing her illness to define her. Through it all, she remained witty, sharp, and full of life, always ready with a smile or clever remark to lift the spirits of those around her. Her grace, strength, and unwavering love reminded everyone that joy could be found even in the hardest times. Joan’s legacy is one of resilience, elegance, and compassion. She will forever be remembered for her devotion to her family, her unshakable faith, and the style and spirit with which she carried herself.
