Jean Manita Walker

In the early morning of Friday, March 11, 2016 Jean Manita Walker (Queen) made her transition from earth to glory in the comfort of her home. She was born July 3, 1943 to the Late Anna Mae Walker in Athens, GA. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Hill Chapel Baptist Church. Jean who was affectionately known as "Queen", attended and graduated from Athens High & Industrial in 1963. She had many jobs throughout the years, but one of them she truly enjoyed, and that was Athens Transit. She met so many wonderful people and made life time friends with them. She loved to help others any way that she could. She planned 2 or 3 trips per year going to various places. Her grand trip every year was to the Ga Vs. Florida game. Jean was one who never met a stranger. A party wasn't a party unless the Queen herself was present. She had a huge heart for the Spring Valley community as a whole. She made sure if she had extra everyone would receive a portion. She always made sure everybody had something to eat. You would never leave her house hungry. Entertaining others was her favorite hobby. Jean decorated for every holiday. Her talented gift of decorating gained the attention from people all over Northeast Ga. In previous years she was the recipient of the V-103 best Christmas lights contest. There was no way to drive down Kennedy circle and not notice the beauty of her yard. Her décor was just as beautiful inside the home as out. Jean was an active part of the Athenian club, neighborhood cleaning committee, voter registration team, VFW Post 3910 Ladies Auxiliary, just to name a few. She was faithful to her mission of collecting food boxes weekly, and providing for those who are less fortunate. She was also one of the original members of the Chancellor Choir. Her greatest love was her children, grandchildren, and great-grands. Jean leaves behind to cherish her memories two children Tracy (Dedre) Taylor of Douglasville Ga, Teresa Lane of Athens Ga. A step daughter Evelyn (Harry) Sims, A god son James Stewart of Raleigh, NC. Four Grandchildren; Michelle Pearson, Courtney Taylor, Stacey Armstrong, and Curtis Dunham. Great Grandchildren; Maniya, Alleyiah, Jaylen, Trinity, Makiah, and Johnathan. Eight sisters and Seven brothers Two devoted sisters Jackie (Homer) Wilson, Shelia Daniel. She has a host of nieces and nephews. A longtime friend Samuel Lane , Her companion Ken Lewis. The Day God took you home It broke our hearts to lose you, But you didn't go alone. Part of us went with you; The day God took you home. He saw that you were tired, Relief was not to be. He put his arms around you, And whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we stayed with you, We watched you fade away. And even though we Loved you, We could not make you stay A golden heart stopped beating,Hard working hands now laid to rest. God broke our hearts to prove, He only takes the best. It broke our hearts to lose you The day God took you home.
