Ms. Janet Patricia Benton

On August 22nd, 1961 a beautiful flower bloomed and we lost that radiant beautiful soul on February 4th, 2023. Janet Patricia Benton, lovingly known as Pati was a twin, a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She was a matriarch, a dreamer, and an achiever! Janet was born into a Honduran family; her mother, Sybil Benton, and father, Henry Benton (deceased), raised her in the church and later had her other siblings, Brenda Benton and Henry Benton Jr. In a country where being a woman and being black in the corporate world of limited opportunities she was able to persevere. She achieved a college education, she was a woman ahead of her time. She was also able to be a woman in the form of a mother and financially provide for her children. Janet worked as a computer programmer for JPMorgan Chase for over 20 years. She later relocated from New York to Savannah, GA, to live near her grandchildren and family. While there, she assisted Speedwell Methodist Church Of Sandfly, Georgia, with media and other program-related duties. Janet was a God-fearing woman who instilled values and integrity into her children Janet loved nature; her favorite hobbies were editing and creating photos of nature and wildlife she would take while hiking and visiting parks and beaches. She loved traveling she loves God and had a deep interest in religion so much that she studied theology and traveled to Jerusalem. She loved her family; her brothers and sister were her best friends, and she assisted the inner city youth of New York while helping her brother with the Brownsville Bible Mission and churches. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking photos of nature. Janet loved her grandchildren and enjoyed seeing them through the growth phases of life while teaching them about the love of God and Christianity. She was a woman who spoke her mind, with no apologies, and believed in charity and the power of giving back and helping those in need. She made it a point to know her grandkids and be a role model and loving parental figure in their lives. Most important she believed in family and being United and uplifting each other. Janet was known to be a leader, a kind spirit, and a loving mother figure to her children, family, and the community. She was helpful, tech-savvy, and encompassed a creative mind that could see and embrace the beauty of life. Janet had two children with Eilcier Franco and later became a grandmother of five children. Her first daughter is Aleisha Franco-Udotong, mother of Giana Martin and Idara Udotong, and her second daughter is Felicia Franco, mother of Cordell Trappio, Micah, and Kyle Franco. Janet was the eldest of her siblings, her twin Brother Jeffery Benton(deceased), Sister Brenda Benton(deceased), and her surviving sibling Henry Benton Jr. She lived in New York until her first grandchild was born in 2004, then moved to Savannah GA and stayed until 2012. In 2012 she moved to Atlanta with her daughters and spent much of their time completing her college degrees and assisting with raising her grandchildren. Janet is survived by her surviving family members, Mother Sybil Benton, Henry Benton Jr, Aleisha Franco-Udotong Franco-Udotong, Felicia Franco, and grandchildren Giana Martin, Cordell Trappio, Micah and Kylah Franco, and Idara Udotong, nephews Jareem Benton, Malik Benton, and Rashaun Benton, and her nieces Sinovia Benton, Shakira Benton, Serrita Oliver, Ameenah Benton, and others. Janet will be remembered for all the love and strength she brought into our lives. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Benton, brother Jeffery Benton, and Grandmother, Daisy Rowe of Jamaica. Services entrusted to Gregory B.
