Mrs. Jacqueline Shannon Murrell

Mrs. Jacqueline Shannon Murrell passed on August 14, 2013. Our Beloved Jackie was born, Jacqueline Elaine Shannon, on February 24, 1957. She was the first born child of Henry Dell and Willie Mae Shannon, whom would later give birth to her younger brother Henry Lloyd. The family would call Woodstock, and the Memphis, TN area home for years to come. Jackie attended Woodstock Elementary and went on to graduate from Melrose High School. She was well loved by her peers, as she was very active in the community and in extracurricular activities. Jackie was an award winning athlete, an adored majorette and was a member of the National Honor Society. After high school, Jackie attended Memphis State University (currently known as The University of Memphis and achieved an Associate’s Degree in Computer Sciences from State Technical Institute of Memphis. In her adult years, Jackie continued to build relationships and bonds along the way. She made an honest living and paid her dues to society. When she was 27 years of age she met the true love of her life, and husband of 29 years, Gregory Murrell. The two would be wed only one year later and embark upon the incredible journey of life together. The two went on to have one son, Jovan Murrell, whom they both loved dearly. Her son was the apple of Jackie’s eye. Anyone who knew Jackie personally inevitably knew of her son Jovan. Jackie and the Murrell family later moved to Stone Mountain, GA and have lived there for the last twenty-two years. Jackie made so many friends and had so many encounters along the way. She genuinely cared for everyone she ever met. Her smile and laughter would brighten a room. Her transparent nature allowed people to confide in her, and Jackie’s timely wisdom encouraged people to seek her guidance. She was cherished by many. In Jackie’s later years the Lord would allow her to endure the ultimate test. She was diagnosed with breast cancer on December 18, 2009. However Jackie was a believer, a fighter and a saint. Though the road was tough and the hills to climb were at times unbearable, her smile and spirit never faded. She was always encouraged and she stayed faithful to the end. Her dance steps may have slowed, but she still graced the dance floor. Her voice may have been weakened, but she still sung her song. On August 14th 2013 the Lord called his daughter home to be with him. She fought a good fight and withstood her test. Jackie has now laid to rest in the Kingdom of Heaven which she so fervently spoke about. Jackie was preceded in death by her mother Willie Mae Shannon and father-on-law Bobby Murrell Jackie is survived by her husband of Gregory Murrell; son Jovan Murrell (Kaurey), Granddaughter Kaci Murrell, Brother Henry Lloyd Shannon (Margaret), Father Henry Shannon (Paulette), Mother-in Law Pauline Murrell and Sister-in-law Donna Allen (Samuel).
