RENÉ BUTLER’S VERSION OF SISTER JACQUI DIONNE BUTLER’S OBITUARY 💜 Jacqueline Dionne Butler, Jacqui, age 66, of Ravenswood Houses in Long Island City, Queens, New York, suddenly transitioned to heaven on Monday, March 18, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia. Jacqui was born on October 22, 1957, in Queens, NY, as the second child of James “Chubby” Butler and his wife, Ada Louise Bailey. As a resident of Queens for 33 years, Jacqui attended St. Rita’s Roman Catholic Elementary School, and August Martin High School. Jacqui graduated from August Martin High School in 1975. After high school, Jacqui attended the Technical Career Institutes, graduating with an Associate Degree in Occupational Studies, Electronic Circuits, and Systems. Jacqui additionally received a Certificate of Completion in Computer Operations. Jacqui ventured from NY to Texas to Virginia, and then Maryland. While living in Virginia, Jacqui proudly worked as one of two female Highway Construction Inspectors for the Virginia Department of Transportation. Thereafter, in support of her daughter’s new occupation as a Nurse, both Jacqui and Quiaña relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. Athletically active in the sport of softball, handball, bowling and basketball, Jacqui found great peace, solace and joy when at a beach anywhere in the world swimming, diving, fishing, snorkeling and certified scuba diving. Mermaid Jacqui was a human in disguise. Ensuring Jacqui and her sister, René, lived their summers to the fullest, their mother had them attend Well-Met Camps and Saint Edward’s Camp in NY for many summers. Jacqui and René’s mother also had them take part in the Fresh Air Fund summer camp program. Via the Fresh Air Fund summer camp program, Jacqui happily spent many wonderful summers in Pennsylvania with a family named Swanson. The Swanson’s loved Jacqui so much that she was invited to spend many summers with them in Pennsylvania. Jacqui and the Swanson family’s same age daughter became fast friends and remained pen pals for many years. Growing up in Ravenswood Houses of LIC, Queens, Jacqui’s childhood, teenage and adult years provided her with many treasured memories of the pure love she received from her beautiful mother and daughter, in addition to providing a formation for the many beautifully cherished neighborhood friendships she maintained throughout her life. At Ravenswood Houses, Jacqui met, was courted by, and eventually married fellow Ravenswood Houses resident, René Vittorio Lushington. That union produced Jacqui’s only child, her daughter, Quiaña, whom she treasured with immeasurably pure love, support, care, and immense pride of her outstanding accomplishments in her career. Up until her untimely passing, Jacqui continued to do what she loved to do. She tended to her many plants, and joined her residential building’s gardening club where and she started growing vegetables for her many friends and building residents. Jacqui was very proud of her garden. Jacqui leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Quiaña Bailey Lushington; her sister, René Michele Butler; and family consisting of Aunts, Uncles, and many cousins. Jacqui is preceded in her transition by her mother, Ada Louise Bailey; her father, James “Chubby” Butler; maternal Grandparents, LeRoy and Louistine Bailey; and paternal Grandparents, Angelo Wilbert Butler and Aleitha Gadison Butler. Celebration of Life Services for Jacqueline Butler will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 11:00 AM. These services will be recorded and streamed live.
