Mr. Ivor V. Brooks

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 On April 29th, 2015, God called Ivor Brooks home. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. He transitioned from this world peacefully in his home in the company of his immediate family. Ivor was born in Warfield Virginia. To hear him tell it, he started working the day he was born. He truly was a jack of all trades. As a young boy, he was an Arabber, he would sell fresh produce from a horse drawn cart through the streets of Baltimore. This was one of his favorite jobs too. It might not have paid him a great deal of money, but he loved meeting new people. He also worked in a bakery, a ditch digger, construction worker and finally Lucent Alcutel, formerly known as Western Electric. In his earlier years, Ivor enjoyed photography, fishing, bowling, camping and cooking. He passed his passions on to members of his family. He was one of eight children, born to the late Margaret and Vernon Brooks. He was the beloved husband to Luetta Brooks for over 60 years. Ivor will be forever remembered by his devoted daughters, Theresa B. Grant and Tina B. McKinney; his grandchildren, Shannan Marie and Estrell Young, III, his three surviving sisters, Verma Williams, Audrey Spencer and Peggy Brooks-Bertram. Preceding him in death were, Lillian Brooks, Randolf Brooks, Joan Wyche, Margie Johnson. He is also survived by countless nieces, nephews and cousins. Ivor touched the lives of many people with his smile. He didn’t know any strangers. If he wasn’t making you laugh, he wasn’t finished with you. He was also a worrier. He worried about things beyond his control and it often kept him up at night. If he could have fixed all the ills of the world, he would have. When he learned he had cancer, his first thought wasn’t for himself. He was worried about how this would affect those around him. Ivor Brooks was ready! He did everything in life that he wanted to do. He had no regrets. Ivor Brooks leaves a legacy of love. Race, color or creed did not matter to him. Honor his memory by being good to each other. Celebration Of Life Services will be held at 11AM Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 25 Boulevard NE Atlanta, Ga 30312. Internment at Eternal Hill Cemetery .
