Mrs. Isabella Henderson

Today we gather for a Celebration of Life for Mrs.Isabella Canty Henderson. She was a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and spiritual advisor. She was strong willed and compassionate. She was a loving pillar and matriarch for her family. She enjoyed reading the Bible, shopping, and traveling with friends and family. Isabella's life began on February 23,1935 in Blenheim, South Carolina. She is the daughter of the late Arthur Andrew Canty and Cleo Bell Canty. She was one of eleven children. Isabella attended Marlboro County Public Schools. She received Christ at an early age of 12 years old. In 1952, Isabella relocated to New York when her older brother, Arthur, came from New York to get his daughter Elois from Blenheim. On September 29,1956 Isabella joined in holy matrimony to James N. Henderson. Isabella also became a member New Canaan Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. She served in the choir, Pastor's Aide, and Sunday School teacher. Isabella's love for children was evident in the way she cared for and helped children. She has several God children. Isabella graduated from Central Evening High School and Bible College. Isabella advanced from Evangelist to become a licensed and ordained Reverend serving at New Canaan. Isabella started her employment in New York domestic work but later advanced to a permanent position with New York City Traffic Enforcement. She retired as a Lieutenant. Upon retirement, she traveled to numerous destinations to spend quality time with family. Once illness set in, Isabella relocated to Georgia to be cared for by her niece Elois Chisolm. She remained there, in her loving care, until she went to sleep in death on December 29,2023. Isabella was preceded in death by both parents; siblings, Richard Canty, Arthur Canty (Pearl-deceased), Linberg Canty (Letha Mae-deceased), Sinta Rebecca Smith (Ollie-deceased), Mary Lee Yarbourgh(Kenny-deceased), Willie Canty, Isaac Canty (Lucy-widowed), Emma Jane Miles (Roosevelt-deceased). Left to cherish her memory, her sister Mazzie McKiver (David-deceased) Bennettsville, SC; Creo Canty of Brooklyn, NY; John Lee Elliott (Earlene) Bennettsville, SC. Along with a host nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
