Harold Venson "JJ" Johnson

Harold Venson Johnson, affectionately known to family and friends as “JJ,” was born on November 3, 1946, in Fort Benning, Georgia, to the late Stephen Johnson, Jr. and Vera Johnson. A man loved by all who knew him, Harold’s warm spirit, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to family and faith left an enduring impression on everyone blessed to know him. Harold attended Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia. Following graduation, he answered the call to serve his country and was drafted into the United States Army, proudly serving during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he pursued his education at Atlanta Area Technical School, where he learned the trade of appliance repair. In 1968, while working as a bartender at the beloved Pitty Pat’s Porch, Harold met the love of his life, Patricia A. Johnson. Their love story blossomed into a beautiful marriage in 1972, and together they built a life founded on faith, love, and commitment. From this union, God blessed them with three wonderful children, and they shared fifty-four years of devoted companionship. Harold dedicated more than thirty years of faithful service to Sears & Roebuck, where he was respected for his strong work ethic and commitment until his retirement. A man of many talents, Harold enjoyed drawing, playing basketball, and teaching himself to play the guitar. Yet above all his hobbies and accomplishments, his greatest passion was serving others. Because of his love for God and people, Harold never hesitated to lend a helping hand. His kindness, wisdom, and willingness to support those around him made him a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Harold peacefully departed this life after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen Johnson, Jr. and Vera Johnson; his sister, Guern Johnson; and his brothers, Richard Stephen Johnson and Donald Johnson. Harold leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Patricia A. Johnson; his sons, Patrick S. Johnson (Meisha) and Michael K. Johnson; his daughter, Traci J. King (Eddie); and his treasured granddaughter, Sarai L. King, who held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his sisters, Claudette J. Williams (preceded in death by her husband, Hardy), Linda Adderley (preceded in death by her husband, Joel), and Cynthia Wright (Lucius). He further leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who loved him dearly and will forever treasure the memories they shared with him. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23 Services entrusted to Gregory B.
