Mrs. Glenda Phillip

Glenda Phillip, 69, of Suwanee, GA passed away on February 1, 2023, at home surrounded by her family after a long illness. Glenda was born to parents George Lewis (deceased) and Sheila Adams (deceased) on October 30, 1953, in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies. She migrated, as a young adult, to the United States along with her mother and siblings and settled in New York to pursue higher education and job opportunities. Glenda and Bertran, whom were acquaintances in Trinidad , would eventually reconnect in the United States, marry on December 22, 1973, and relocate to Washington D.C. The couple welcomed two daughters, Gwendolyn and Christel, and settled into suburban living in Temple Hills, Maryland. Although Glenda was content as a new wife and mother, she had desires for much more. She pursued different career options however would finally find her passion pursuing a career in the travel industry. It was this career path that brought her the most joy by assisting others, as well as herself and family, in traveling the world. She would often make trips back to Trinidad and Tobago because although she had long left the island, the island had never left Glenda. She could be found at many Caribbean Carnival festivals around the country, would cook a traditional “Trini” meal for anyone that visited her home, and often referred to herself as “Trini to de Bone”. She was sure to make sure she always stepped out in style and was a light in every room she entered. She also remained dedicated to her faith and attended church routinely. As empty nesters, Glenda and Bertran relocated to Suwanee, Ga in 1995, where they eventually retired and enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren. Glenda will be remembered as a woman who was unapologetic about her love of Christ, her Trinidadian culture, spending time with her family and friends, and living life to the fullest. Glenda was predeceased by sister, Carol Jones, and brother, Edmund Francis. She is survived by her loving husband Bertran of 49 years; children Gwendolyn and Christel; 6 grandchildren: Kayla, Michael, Sameena, Isaiah, Morgan, and Isaac; siblings: Marlene Lewis, Myrtle Wade, Ferdinand Lewis, Cheryl Ross; as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of her life, which will be held on February 10, 2023 at the Catholic Church of Saint Monica at 11 am with burial immediately following.
