With hearts full of love and gratitude, we remember and celebrate the life of Gina Doreen Smith-Cobb , who went home in May 2025. Though her time here feels far too short, Gina lived a life overflowing with purpose, laughter, and compassion. Born January 25, 1960, to Maedel Davis and Robert Smith, Gina was the beloved youngest of six children—a role she wore with grace, sass, and that signature sparkle in her eye. She shared a special, lifelong bond with her twin sister Chela Maureen Smith, and was the heartbeat of a family that relied on her strength and kindness. Gina was known by many names— daughter, sister, twin, aunt, mother, grandma, First Lady, friend, counselor, teacher , and perhaps most accurately, rock . Whether she was planning family gatherings, helping a loved one through loss, managing a classroom, or making someone laugh on their hardest day, Gina always showed up. Every time. With love. With wisdom. With unmatched patience and a little bit of sass. She is survived by her devoted daughter Candice , her son-in-law Carlos , and the joy of her life, her grandson Carmelo . Gina’s heart extended beyond bloodlines—she was a second mom to many, a listening ear to countless others, and a guiding light in every room she entered. She also leaves behind her sisters Chela , Linda and Authurine , her nieces Megan and Michelle , and her nephews Calvin , Robert , and James . Gina now reunites in peace with her beloved siblings Brenda and Rodney . Gina’s life was not defined by titles but by impact. She cared for her disabled mother as a young woman when others might have run from the responsibility. When her brother Rodney passed suddenly, she was the calm in the storm, ensuring he was honored with dignity. She escorted her older sisters to appointments, stood by Megan during the loss of her father, and held space for every person who needed her. She didn’t just help—she healed . She was a proud daycare director , teacher , administrative assistant , and First Lady of a church community. But those roles only scratched the surface. Gina was a fierce advocate, a warm hug, a wise voice, and sometimes, the hilarious one sneaking candy into your purse during long church services. And oh, did she love the color red —bold, vibrant, and full of life, just like her. She had a soft spot for old westerns , could watch “Murder, She Wrote” on a loop, and always appreciated a good mystery (as long as Jessica Fletcher solved it in under 45 minutes). We will miss the things we planned and never got to do. The trips. The talks. The laughs. But most of all, we’ll miss her —the beautiful, brilliant woman who was always there.
