Georgia V. McCloud

Ms. Georgia V. McCloud, age, 99, passed away on July 2, 2019. Georgia Rose Veazie was born in Opelousas, LA, the eldest child of Caesar Veazie, Sr and Lillie Batiste Veazie (both deceased). After completing her education from high school, she attended Grambling University, earning an A.A. From there, she enlisted in the WAC (Women's Army Corps) during WWII. She attained the level of Sgt-Supplier. After her military service, Georgia enrolled at Alabama A & M University in Huntsville, Alabama where she earned a B.A. in Education. She met and married a veteran (Army) was was also attending Alabama A & M. To this union, one child was born; a daughter they named Yvonne. Ms. Georgia continued to pursue her career in Education. During her tenure, she taught Special Education, Elementary Education, and she also was a teacher of Reading. She also taught college courses during the summer at Alabama A & M and Rust College, MS. Her teaching included adult literacy, especially for military veterans. Georgia accepted Christ into her life as a teen and walked diligently to serve Him all of her life. As a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church, Huntsville AL for 48 years, Georgia was a Sunday School teacher, chair of the Christian Board of Education, President of the Young Women's Society and an usher. In 1999, Georgia moved to Decatur, GA to live with her daughter. She became a member of the Greenforest Baptist Chruch and was a member of the Keenagers, the Mission group and a member of a fulfillment hour class. Georgia is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Georgia is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Powers, Decatur GA; two granddaughters, Tiffaini and Tara Powers, Decatur Ga; one great-grandchild, Kristopher (Son of Tiffini); brother, Ceaser Veazie Jr (Doreta), Opelousas, LA; a nephew/son, Col. Arnold Veazie, Alexandria, VA; and nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. The family of Georgia Veazie McCloud humbly thanks everyone for the comforting and tangible expressions of sympathy and concern.
