George B McRae

George B. McRae was born on December 14, 1936, in Lumber City, Georgia, to the late Hallie and Pearl McRae. On June 11, 2025, God called him home at the age of 88. George grew up in Lumber City, where he attended the local public school system. Even as a young man, his athletic talents were evident—he was scouted for both baseball and basketball. His love for sports continued throughout his life, and he later served as an umpire for baseball games in his community. Early in his working life, George hauled pulpwood and drove trucks, laying the foundation for a strong work ethic that would define his life. While visiting Saint Bernadene Beach, George met the love of his life, Vera Mae Ross. Eventually, George relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he pursued technical training at Atlanta Area Technical College, focusing on blueprint reading and ironworking. From that education, he built a successful career through Atlanta Iron Workers Local Union #387. Rising to the position of manager, George became a respected mentor, guiding many through the profession with patience and wisdom. Beyond his professional life, George was deeply devoted to his community. A true steward of his neighborhood, he was always ready to lend a hand, never letting a neighbor go hungry. His generous spirit and sense of duty made him a beloved figure among all who knew him. George was a man of many talents and passions. He was a Master fisherman, Master gardener, Master hunter, and a Master breeder of hunting dogs—skills he practiced with joy and shared generously. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Clark; his parents, Hallie and Pearl McRae; and his siblings: Beulah Mae, Willard “Buck,” Oscar, Robert, Nealie, Willie, Ann, Geneva, Eli, Ernestine, Ben, and Floyd. He leaves to cherish his memory ALL his children: Barbara Robinson, Belinda Mosley (William) ,as well as, Virginia Hudson (Joseph), and Deana Wilson Strickland (Darrell); last living sister, Charlie Ann Parker; as well as a host of adored grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and community members who will continue to honor his legacy. George B. McRae lived a life rooted in hard work, love, and service. His strength, wisdom, and kindness will be remembered and cherished forever. George believed that walking with the Lord was not just important—it was essential. His life was grounded in prayer, guided by Scripture, and lived with integrity. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 1:00pm at Gregory B. Levett and Sons Funeral Home Scottdale Chapel at 351 N. Clarendon Ave., Scottdale, GA 30079..
