Mr. George Edward Booker, Jr., 91 of Decatur, GA passed on February 23, 2025. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Rainbow Park Baptist Church, 2941 Columbia Dr. , Decatur, GA 30034. Rev. Beckum, officiating. Levett & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory South Dekalb Chapel 404.241.5656. Let me introduce myself - Mr. George Edward Booker I am George Edward Booker Jr., born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. My nickname is “Sonny” since I am a “Jr” to my father, Mr. George Edward Booker, Sr. Son to my wonderful mother, Mrs. Mary Alice Jones Booker. I am the oldest of five (5) children. My siblings, Phyllis, Oscar Lee & Louise (preceded in death), and my sister Elizabeth Ann. Ann is the last of the George and Mary Booker’s clan. Thank you to my little sister Ann for her caring, loving heart as a caregiver for me when I needed it. Thank you for the unconditional love from you, your kids, and your grandkids. Thank you for being there for me and loving me until the end. Educated in the Atlanta Public School System, graduating from David T. Howard High School. I began working with my father at the bowling alley. It was such an exciting time for me to have the opportunity to work with my father and learn a job that made him proud to teach me. My responsibilities were to return the balls to the holding rack and resetting the bowling pins. I held this position until graduating from high school. In 1951 I enlisted into the Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. I quickly realized the military was not for me. I received an honorable discharge at the end of a one-year service. Before returning to Georgia, I wanted to explore and spread my wings a little, so I moved California with my aunt and begin working for the United States Postal Service. After two years I was home sick and moved back home. I was a dedicated team member to all my employment endeavors. Being a family person and provider, it was not unusual for me to have multiple jobs at the same time. As a young child, I joined the New Jerusalem Baptist Church. After years away, I reunited with New Jerusalem Baptist Church in 2015. I enjoyed sports, watching westerns, sitting on my front porch greeting my neighbors, but mostly, I loved reading and studying the Word of God. In 1972, I was blessed to meet and later married my second wife Mrs. Wille Belle Lee Booker. My life was enriched with her love until her death in 2002. Forever my angel on earth, we are together again forever. My life was blessed by the love of my wife’s daughter Caroline Lee Dixon, whom I adopted and a wonderful grandson Mario R. Lee. Caroline and Mario brought joy to my life as a father and grandfather. I say thank you to them both for the love and the exceptional care that they provided to and for me. Mario, you were my best friend and took on the role of primary caregiver. Thank you for all that you did daily to ensure Granddaddy was taken care of. I needed and wanted nothing under your watchful eyes. I love you Mario forever. As I say, “until we meet again,” my memories will live on in all that I loved. Sons – Nathan Booker, Timothy Booker; Daughters – Shirley Ann Hopkins (preceded in death), Mary Booker, Valeicia Booker, Shelia Ray Booker, Caroline Dixon. Sister- Elizabeth Ann Heard of Atlanta, GA; Grandson/Caregiver – Mario Lee. In-laws- Mary Alice and Lee McGee; Gracie Hatfield; Dan and Carmetra Fears, Katherine Lee, Earnest and Linda Lee, Thomas Earl Lee (all of Jackson & Bolton, MS); Willie Bell Booker of Stockbridge, GA. Godchildren; Zaccheus McLaruin, Destiny Lee, Diamond Lee; Great Godchildren; Mize and Nolan Lee. Former spouse Ozella Booker; a host of other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
