Frank W Simmons

Frank W. Simmons was born December 17, 1940, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Thomas E. Simmons, Sr. (deceased 1977) and Birdie (Bunny ) Simmons (deceased 1985). He attended New Stanton Senior High in Jacksonville. After graduation he entered the military and became part of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division (jumping out of planes). Once he completed His military commitment he entered Tennessee State University, Nashville, Tennessee. While there he was part of the swim team and joined the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He did find the time to complete his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. He also managed to complete hours beyond his Master’s. After college, Frank worked in high schools, and taught college at Volunteer State in Nashville, Tennessee. He decided later to change his focus and went to work for the Cincinnati YMCA in Cincinnati, Ohio. Looking for more, he expanded his work in the youth programs field by joining a community based organization in the heart of city, Findley Street Neighborhood Organization. He also coached little league football programs. They focused on city wide youth programs. Frank was forced to give up his work in youth development to follow his wife to Rochester, New York. There he worked for Xerox Corporation, Webster, New York, in manufacturing. However, he was in his world in Rochester, New York. Those who really know him, knew he loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of clubs in Nashville, Tennessee, Cincinnati,Ohio and Rochester, New York. New York was his heaven because he fished every finger lake year round (that means ice fishing). He moved on to the big lakes, Erie,Michigan and more. However, as he changed lakes or hunting grounds the stories got longer, bigger and a little more exaggerated. But then they were his stories and his truths. He lived it to the fullest. No regrets. So, his wife made him move again in 2001 to Atlanta , Georgia (poor thing) and he started his search for hunting and fishing. While looking, he found his church, Hope Missionary Baptist, Norcross, Georgia. Yes, he found his fishing and hunting spots. Frank left us on Sunday, August 16, 2020. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Juanita, children, Monica C. Simmons and Robert E. Simmons, grandchildren, ASmoni Simmons, Brooke Simmons, John Simmons, and David Simmons. One sister, Joy Bustamante, Cleveland, Ohio. Two sister-in-laws, Jeanett Fambro,Columbia, Maryland and Gloria Simmons( wife of Thomas Simmons Jr. deceased) Dallas, Texas. One Brother-in-law, Jimmy (Donna) Pitts, Atlanta, Georgia. And a host of extended family, nieces,nephews, and countless supportive friends.
