Ferdinand Heinrich Pietz

Ferdinand “Ferdi” "EZ" “Rick” Pietz was not the first to have many aliases, nor was he the first to believe that the microwave oven ruined food. Pietz was, however, the first baby born that year in Georgia, on base at Fort Benning, and the first son born to Rudolf and Helga Pietz. Though his wife did not allow him to touch power tools, he was intelligent, well read, and articulate. He carried a copy of the Constitution in his coat pocket and Tao Te Ching in his truck. He enjoyed talking to intelligent people who espoused different views. When traveling, he could find the most interesting people to talk to. He was open minded and accepting. Pietz, lovingly known most recently as “Rick”, was a man truly gifted with a plethora of knowledge and fun facts that he enjoyed imparting on all that cared to listen. He was an excellent traveling companion. Rick transitioned to the great expanse, November 1, 2023, from his place of residence. He graduated from Jackson State University, and later received his master’s at Georgia Tech. Rick served in the US Army where he traveled, met interesting people, but hurt no one. Rick met his best friend and wife, Lori Hoffman, and together they settled into life, raising their son, and keeping the law at bay. Rick loved history, politics (but not many politicians), and watching America's Test Kitchen. Rick will be lovingly remembered by his wife Lori; their son Michael Hoffman and his wife Talicia Clark; his father Rudolf Pietz; his brother Harald Pietz and his wife Pam Tyson; and two grandchildren Talis and Aria Hoffman. Rick was predeceased by his mother Helga Pietz. Ferdinand “Rick” Pietz will be sorely missed. May the memory of his wit and genius make us smile.
