Evelyn Jackson

Ms. Evelyn Jackson was the daughter of the late Ms. Pauline Ragland and Mr. Edward Jackson. She was born on November 16, 1928 in Atlanta, Ga. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined the Cosmopolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in Atlanta. Evelyn was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Wardell Brown, Sr. Into this union four children were born. In later years, Evelyn married Mr. Edwin Harris and into this union a daughter was born. Evelyn was educated in the Atlanta Public School System. Prior to moving to Cleveland, Ohio she was employed by the Atlanta Public School System as a school crossing guard. While living in Cleveland, Ohio she worked as a punch press operator and at a book publishing factory. After spending more than fifty years in Cleveland she moved back to Atlanta to care for her ailing mother. After the death of her mother she became a volunteer at J. W. Dodd Elementary School as a Foster Grandparent who assisted special needs children. She enjoyed spending time with her family, volunteering and giving back to the community. Evelyn was a very friendly, outgoing, and loving woman who never met a stranger, she made friends everywhere she went. She was loved by all and will be missed by everyone. In 2013, Evelyn became a resident of A. G. Rhodes Rehab and Nursing Facility where she was a member of the Red Hat Society. On December 27, 2016, Evelyn departed this life and made the transition into eternal life at Atlanta Medical Center. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-father, John Henry White, son, Anthony Brown and son-in-law, Lamar Holder. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Gail Diane Holder, Atlanta, GA.; Pamela Harris Cleveland, OH; two sons, Wardell Brown Jr.(Debra) McDonough, GA; Dwight Brown (Cynthia)Syracuse, NY; one granddaughter, Ashley Brown, Statesboro, GA; eight grandsons, Terrance Benefield (Kira) Houston, TX; Sigress James (Arlanda) McDonough, GA; Tyler James and Torrie Harris, Cleveland, Ohio; Dwight Brown Jr, and Nicholas Brown, Syracuse, NY; Eric Brown and Raynard Brown; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; Sister, Barbara Chambers, Atlanta, GA; Nieces, Brenda James (Willie) Lawrenceville, GA; Cheryl Shockley, Atlanta, GA; Nephew, Gregory Shockley ,East Point, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Saturday, December 31, 2016 11am at Gregory B. Levett & Sons, Funeral Home, 4347 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur, GA., 30034 . Visitation: Friday, December 30, 2016 11AM-8PM with family hour 6pm-7pm Burial: Lincoln Cemetery
