Elice Olivia Scarlett

Elice Olivia Scarlett was born in New York on June 25, 1953 to Walter and Venus Hayes (deceased) growing up in the Queensbridge Houses of New York. She was a caring mother, sister and friend. She left this world on October 9, 2020 at the age of 67. After graduating from high school, Elice attended college where she met her husband Lloyd Scarlett (deceased) and from that union they had two children: Maurice (spouse: Meco) and Diyonne (spouse: Chris). Working in the Healthcare Industry for several years, Elice decided to return to school to study Radiology. For more than 30 years, she worked as an X-ray technician at various medical facilities throughout the New York City area. In 2014, Elice, a loving mother, retired and decided to move to Georgia to be closer to her children. Transitioning to Georgia, Elice did her best to adjust to southern living. She was a true New Yorker to her heart. As a result of her love for the "City" she became known as “New York” to everyone in her neighborhood. Although she would always say how much she missed being home in New York, she was overjoyed being so close to her children. Elice loved spending time in the kitchen cooking with the television on QVC, HSN, Law & Order and Supernatural. She enjoyed listening to Smooth Jazz & R&B and was known to fill her home with heavy bass so, she could dance the day away with her favorite drink, a half-lit Newport and the neighborhood cats. Elice was well versed in religion, politics, and African-American history. She loved a strong debate and would always win (wink)! She would also tell stories about her family who, were mostly professionals in the fields of engineering, music and boxing. Over the last few years Elice enjoyed cruising with family and friends. Her most recent adventures included attending her daughter’s wedding in Las Vegas and cruising the Caribbean with friends, to include her lifelong BFF, Portia Hendrickson. Elice leaves to cherish many loving memories: a loving son and daughter, four grandchildren: Amarii Scarlett, Corey Shields, Zachary Cockrell, Shakeira Riggins and one great- granddaughter: Zola Cockrell. Not only did she adore her grands but, her host of nieces and nephews, close family members and dear friends reaped the benefits of her laughter and love of family. Funeral Service will be at 1PM on Saturday, October 17, 2020 here in our Rockdale Chapel. Visitation will be held on Friday October 16 2020 from 4PM-7PM at our ROCKDALE CHAPEL. Gregory B.
