Dorothy Jean Williams

Mrs. Dorothy Jean Williams, daughter of Alphonso and Betty White (both deceased), was born on November 18th, 1946, in Scottdale, Georgia. She was one of nine siblings. She attended elementary school at Robert Shaw Elementary Theme school and graduated from Hamilton High school as the Class of 1964, in Scottdale, Georgia, she was a stellar student with a great talent in Mathematics. She received a full ride scholarship in Mathematics to attend college in Tennessee, but she declined to marry Curtis “Black Boy” Williams (deceased) on January 24th,1965. In their union, they created two daughters, Carolyn D. Williams and Meon Y. Williams (deceased). After the passing of Meon, she and her husband, Curtis, raised their eldest four grandchildren. She worked at Dekalb Medical in her early years, and then years after being a homemaker, she worked in hospitality at the W Atlanta Perimeter Hotel. Her faith in the Lord was her grounding and in her early years, attended Traveler's Rest Baptist Church. She made sure that her grandchildren came up in the house of the Lord at New Beginnings Baptist Church in Scottdale, Georgia. She started every morning off with a cup of coffee watching the sunrise on her favorite spot in the living room to spend time with God, then stayed on the phone with her sisters and mother. Dorothy was full of life and her home was a shelter for anyone who needed a hot meal, a kind word and a lot of love and laughter. Her home was always filled with the best of Motown, Ray Charles, food cooking nonstop, 3 AM check ins, huge celebrations, and getting the entire family matching gifts. Everyone knew “Aunt Dot” would be there for you no matter the circumstance and no matter how the world saw you. She was the embodiment of unconditional love with a no-nonsense delivery. She is preceded in death by two siblings, Alphonso White Jr (Helen) and Bobby White. She also leaves in her memory five granddaughters, Toreanna R. Copeland, Erica A. Williams, Jasmine O. Adamson (Darius), Crystal D. Scott and Elizabeth A. Stigger (Scott). She leaves behind six great grandchildren, Linnel C. Adams, Aiden T. Jacobs, Darius J. Adamson, Allison D. Adams, Hendrix K. Adams and Miles A. Stigger. She is survived by six siblings, Oliver White, Kathey White, Donny White, Betsy Dunson, Yolanda “Lance ”Lightfoot and Corey “Pete” Lightfoot, sister in laws, Gussie “Sis” Williams, Martha “Mot” Williams, Margaret “Baby Sweet” Williams, Helen White and Brianna Bell, best friends, Mrs. Mary English and Ms. Mary Lucas, and a host of many nephews, nieces, friends and family who longingly referred to her as “Dot”, “Aunt Dot”, “Gamma” and “Shug”. The family would like to send a special thank you to Tomeka “Meko” White, Lisa S. David, Marylin Johnson and Gregory A. Cartwright who were pillars for Dorothy and the immediate family during times endured far beyond the time of transitioning. We can’t thank you enough for all that you have done. We couldn’t have done it without your help.
