Dorothy Ann Searcy

Beloved Wife, Mother, and Nurse Mrs. Dorothy (Summers-Beasley) Searcy affectionately known as “Dot”, was born on August 7, 1945, to the late Benjamin Summers Sr and Daisy Summers. After the passing of her mother, Dorothy became the mother figure for her three siblings at the age of 11 and primary caregiver of her visually impaired father. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister, Benjamin Summers, Jr and Esther (Summers) Freeman, respectively; sister – in law Ms. Virginia Searcy, Ms. Mazie Weaver and Ms. Lamandia Atwater. She graduated from THE Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, GA in 1963. With her passion for nursing, she continued on to receive her Associate’s Degree in nursing from Dekalb College, and her Certification as a Registered Nurse. Dorothy discovered her calling in healthcare early in life. She embarked on a remarkable career at Grady Hospital as Charge Nurse, where her kindness and expertise touched countless lives. She was recognized as one of Grady’s Great 100 in 2004. Her commitment to her patients and colleagues was a testament to her unwavering passion for service. She served Atlanta’s Grady Hospital for over 40 years where she retired in 2005. She passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, at the age of 79. Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Dorothy accepted Christ at New Westside Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA at an early age, where she taught Vacation Bible School and was an instrumental teacher in other areas such as the ushers ministry, additionally, she served on the Missionary board. Later, she became a devoted member of New Lincoln Park AME Church in Thomaston, GA, where she served on the Board of Trustees, the choir, and expressed her love for the church by decorating it with care and creativity. Outside of her church activities, Dorothy enjoyed painting, drawing, and practicing calligraphy. She was also an expert in floral decor, bringing beauty and elegance to every arrangement. She enjoyed line dancing to stay active. In her retirement, Dorothy found joy in spending time with her family, gardening, and volunteering within her community. She was known for her generous spirit, warm smile, and the ability to make anyone feel cared for and valued. She also enjoyed fellowshipping with her extended family. Dorothy is survived by her loving husband, Lonnie Searcy, her cherished daughter, Kimberly Beasley of Decatur, GA and her two beloved stepdaughters, Kenya Renae (Kelvin) Price of Hampton, GA and Kena Searcy of Ellenwood, GA, her nephew Jermaine (Constance) Summers of Stone Mountain, GA; as well her grandchildren Malcolm Eason and Eden Level. She is also survived by her sister, Bennie Steed, and her devoted brother-in-law, Delano Steed of Conyers, GA; sisters and brothers – in – law, Ms. Annie Ruth Smith, Mr. Bobby (Kay) Searcy, Mr. Elvis Searcy, Mrs. Elaine (Tonny) Walker; Ms. Dorothy Carthon, Ms. Naomi Harris, Mr. Horace Searcy and Rev. Ralph (Emma) Searcy – all of Thomaston, GA.; Mrs. Delores (Sanford) Montgomery of Atlanta, GA. as well as a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Dorothy’s life was a beacon of love and dedication, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Final services entrusted to Gregory B.
