DOROTHY “Brown Sugar” CAVALIER SANDERS was born to the late Felthus and Elizabeth Thornton Cavalier on March 17, 1940 in St. Francisville, Louisiana. She departed this life on March 12, 2025 at Anderson Mill Nursing Facility, Austell, GA. She was the third of 16 children. At an early age, Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a member of IGO Church, Smyrna, GA, Rev. Robin Hancox and Popular Spring Baptist Church, Appling, GA, Rev. F.C. Henderson, where she lived with her niece LaTasha (Dwayne) Green. One of her favorite scriptures was Psalm 23. Her famous expression was, “you don’t believe Jesus died for you because you were not at His funeral.” She had an unwavering faith in God according to Ephesians 6:13 … and having done all, to stand. She was always praying for someone with faith believing that only God could and would answer prayers. Every year she would read through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Dorothy worked for the federal government as a clerical worker before she retired. During hurricane Katrina she left New Orleans and moved to Austell, GA to live with her daughter. She enjoyed watching various tv shows especially Steve Harvey, shopping, getting her hair and nails done and traveling. Her desire was to travel somewhere each year whether it was to New Orleans, LA, Augusta, GA, Mississippi or San Diego, California to visit her sister Toni. Dorothy’s beautiful smile will truly be missed. People called her “smiley” because it was the first thing they saw when they met her. She was preceded in death by her daughter Yatta Evans-Bradley, son-in-law L.C. Bradley, brother Oliver Thornton, sisters Mary Harris and Geraldine Shanks and great-grandbaby Kody Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories: her son Lawrence Davis Jr., grandchildren Kwain Evans, Larry Evans, Lashanda Walker Benson, Latisha Evette Walker, Julia Danielle Johnson; great-grandchildren Christian Benson, Bailey Benson, Kadence Johnson, Khloe Johnson, Kaylei Johnson; seven sisters: Toni Coston, Nancy Cooper, Cheryl (Alton Sr.) Tillis, Stephanie Combre, Felthus Elizabeth (Ervin) Blaise, Lucille (Morris) Sawyer, Annette Neal; five brothers: Lawrence Cavalier, Alfred Cavalier, Gerald Cavalier, Ricky Cavalier and Terry (Cassandra) Cavalier (all of New Orleans, LA); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
