Mrs. Dorothy Parson

Dorothy Parson was born May 11, 1955 in West Palm Beach, FL. She was the only child of the late A.C. and Josephine Smith. She graduated from Suncoast High School in 1973 and Palm Beach Community College in 1975 with a degree Fashion Merchandising. She married her high school sweetheart Lucius “Luke” Parson Jr. in 1974. They raised one daughter LeChea Camille Parson-Underwood. Dorothy had a successful and fulfilling career for 35 years with the United States Post Office. She served in positions in West Palm Beach, FL and in Atlanta, GA. She retired from the USPS in January 2013. Her nurturing spirit, was evident in her dedication to her family and her friends. She was probably most proud of her role as grandmother (“Gogo”) to her two grandchildren. She was an avid reader and a dedicated and active member of the Onyx Book Club for over 20 years. Dorothy was known for love and fashion, which was reflected in her unique and stylish appearance. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, the late A.C. and Josephine Smith, and her father-in-law Lucius Parson Sr. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband Lucius "Luke" Parson Jr., daughter LeChea Camille Parson-Underwood (Victor) and grandchildren Luke Callen and Alaina Underwood of Tallahassee, Florida; mother-in-law Elnora Parson, Riviera Beach, Florida; four sisters-in-law, Velma Waters (Willie), West Palm Beach, Florida, Valeria Wedges (Daniel), West Palm Beach, Florida, Denise Parson, Riviera Beach, Florida, Yvonne Goodman (Raiford), West Palm Beach, Florida; four aunts, Rubynell Johnson (James), Dothan, Alabama, Christine McKay, East Orange, New Jersey, Versie Fitzgerald, West Palm Beach, Florida, Frances Smith, Riviera Beach, Florida; one uncle, Alvoinda Smith, Winter Haven, Florida; three great-aunts, Arie Dozier, Headland, Alabama, Ola Mae Moore (Otis), Dothan, Alabama, Nellie Thomas, Chicago, Illinois; four nephews, Reggie Cole (Angela), Roderick Mitchell, Tavares Goodman, Tamiyal Goodman; one niece, Tanecia Ward; godfather Robert McDuffie and godsister Sheila McDuffie; godbrother James Lee; goddaughter LaShawn Nicole Young (Lawrence); devoted friends Roxanne Pleasant, Regina and Marilynn Finklin, and Carla Hardnett; and a host of cousins, other relatives, neighbors, and friends. Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy Jean Parson, 62, of Lithonia, GA., will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2017, 5pm at Gregory B. Levett & Sons, Funeral Home, 4347 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur, GA., 30034. Final services will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017, 1pm at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church, 1425 9th St., West Palm Beach, Fl ., Viewing 12NOON until the hour of service.
