Donna "Candy" Mae Mock

Donna lived her life by the motto … “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.” Donna Mae Mock, or “CANDY” as she was affectionately called lived in Norcross, Georgia. She was born on January 7, 1963, in Chicopee, Massachusetts to the union of the late James Henry Mock, Sr., and Shirley Ann (Harris) Mock. The Mock family came to western Massachusetts as a result of their father's transfer during active duty at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Donna was a 1980 graduate of Springfield Technical High School in Springfield, Ma. On April 9, 1983, she was inducted into the Delta Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In 1984, she was crowned Miss Senior. In 1984, she graduated from Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Upon graduating from Grambling, she made Georgia her home. Donna was the life of the party and loved karaoke. We all could count on receiving a birthday call from her in three renditions of happy birthday songs including her famous Marilyn Monroe. Candy was the true Karaoke Queen. Every holiday that she couldn’t come home, we could always count on a phone call where we played “pass the phone”. She was full of life and laughter. She loved sports, especially the New England Patriots.Her favorite color was red, and like most of her sorors, she loved collecting elephants. Her family, sorors and friends were near and dear to her heart. She loved reminiscing about the good days and the good ole times. She was dearly loved by all of her nieces and nephews, as so eloquently said by her niece below. “Auntie Candy! The Big D (DST) you will be missed; Miss “look at my elephants”; Miss “Imma walk”; Miss Welcome to Applebee’s; Miss Peach; Miss I need my drink, Miss I love Sasha more than anything in the world; Miss Christmas; Miss Thanksgiving; Miss New Year; Miss Birthday…who should call us and speak to the whole room on those occasions! What I would do for one last song, one last laugh with Auntie Candy, Candela, Donna whomever you are today, know you were loved. Your life was not in vain. I love you so much and thank you for being yet another black, educated pillar in our lives. I love you! Rest in peace.” Your niece, Pooh Chels Donna departed this life on Wednesday, September 21, 2022. She is predeceased by her father, James Henry Mock; her sister, Linda G. Mock and her special nephew, Alfred Katiba Mock. Donna leaves to cherish her memory: mother, Shirley Mock; brother,James Mock, Jr.; four sisters, Janet Mock and Lisa Mock both of Springfield, MA; Rosland (Mock)Wilson of Jacksonville, FL; Vera (Mock) Lester (Benjamin) of Norfolk, VA. Her lifetime partner Hilton “Todd” Dillard;special companion, Vivian Peeples; her god-daughter, Bianca Cotton; her God-brother Antonio Green; her loyal feline, Sasha; and let’s not forget her 47 line sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Delta Iota Chapter and sorors; GramFam and Atlanta friends. Everyone who remembers Donna is asked to celebrate Candy’s life in their own way. In honor of her memory, we hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone who can’t bless you back.
