Devangelo Peterson

DeVangelo Montinez Peterson, better known as Van, was born on October 28, 1964, 57, in Hopewell Virginia. Majority of his childhood was spent in Prince George, Virginia with the matriarch of the Peterson family, his grandmother, late Rhoda Peterson. During his early teens, his mother, Elinor (Peterson) Wallace met the love of her life, the late Dallis Wallace, Sr (Pop) who took him under his wing and became his best friend. After graduating high school, Van moved to Atlanta, Georgia with a group of friends to attend college. Shortly after while working at Sears, he met the love of his life Demetria, who he affectionately called Meat, and started to build the perfect life together with the guidance of God. They then married on September 15, 1990. Van spent the last 16 years at Palliative Pharmacy Solutions as a Logistics Supervisor. PPS is a family operated business who provides medicine to home care and hospice patients. He had a passion for this work and understood how critical it was for those patients to receive their medication as they were at the end of their life. He showed that same level of passion and devotion to his employees, coworkers and owners of the company. The proudest Steelers fan, win or lose, Van would talk about them as if he were the off-season coach, and you couldn’t tell him otherwise. He had such an infectious personality, whomever he encountered, Van treated them like family. He would talk to anyone, whether it was at the grocery store, a fishing pier or a quick gas station run. His love for his family was his pride and joy. Van had so much love, he adopted several of his children’s friends who called him, “Pop”. Since the late 80’s, Van & Meat’s home has always welcomed family and friends over for a delicious meal at the spur of a moment. He was especially known for having a cookout where you get schooled in a game of spades with a smoked rib in your hand. He was even there just to give a listening ear or advice to anyone who asked; or didn’t ask. He was the most genuine man that you could count on. Van is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Demetria Peterson (Meat), his two sons, Deonte’ Peterson ( daughter in law, Tenielle Peterson) and Maurice Peterson (daughter in law, Juliana Peterson); two daughters, DeAngela Peterson and Mauria Peterson; He was “Pop Pop” to five grandchildren, Destinee (13), Maurice Jr (9), Korlyn (5), Jaliyah (4) and Gavin (11 months). His mother, Elinor Wallace, mother in law, Janice Harris; three brothers, Jonathan Wesley, Dallis Wallace Jr and Jon West-Bey; one sister, Hope Wallace; one sister in law LaWanda Hunter (husband, Jerry Hunter); two brothers in law Stanford Harris, Michael Harris. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles & friends with 50 plus many years in friendship. He will be missed by many from Virginia down to Georgia. Van will live forever in our hearts.
