Delilah Mae McGill

Delilah would like to let you know that her work here is done. She received a call with an offer she couldn’t refuse, for a spectacular assignment from which she will not be returning. In her new role, she instantly received a sign-on bonus, extraordinary health benefits, unlimited perks and an all-inclusive reunion with her parents, family, and some friends she hasn’t seen in a long time. On her first day, Delilah received an elaborate, all white uniform and assurance of 100% job security. She received first-hand knowledge that her new location is incomprehensibly beautiful, recession-proof and pandemic free. She has plenty of time for dancing, singing and testifying. She has unlimited music, laughter and love, not to mention a C.E.O. who couldn’t be happier that she accepted His offer. If anyone wonders whether Delilah was qualified for this position, she wants you not to worry because on Sunday, September 13th at 1:19 a.m., Delilah was present and accounted for. Delilah Mae McGill, who many lovingly referred to as “Dee”, was born on March 15, 1954 in South Carolina to Deacon Leroy McGill Sr. and Mother Lottie Mae McGill, the oldest of their six children. Delilah was a professed daddy’s girl but was also very close to her mother, frequently referring to her as “my best friend” as she reflected on her final days caring for her mother. Delilah was reared in the church, was an integral hand with the family business, and devotedly assisted in caring for her siblings. Delilah graduated from Auburndale High School (Auburndale, FL) in 1972 and joined the Air Force where she served for four years during the Vietnam War. Delilah earned her Associates of Arts from Savannah State (Savannah, GA) and became well-versed in many vocations, but referred to parenthood as, by far, her most rewarding accomplishment besides giving her life to the Lord. Her son, Ian Gamaliel Ramon McGill, was born in 1977 and she described him as a gift that enriched her life. Although Delilah gave her life to the Lord at a young age, she went on to serve her church in just about every capacity including usher, choir member, director and teacher. Her love for ministry extended outside the walls of church through her service to others less fortunate, and through selfless giving of time and resources. Her gifts of prophecy and wisdom were evident to anyone who encountered her. She was warm, thoughtful, spoke the word of God fearlessly and with authority. She always took prayer seriously. It is said that if someone told Delilah that they needed prayer, hopefully their request was sincere, because Delilah would say a prayer on the spot. It was no surprise that her gifts and desire for continuous growth in ministry would take her back to school. Delilah received her Bachelors in Theology from River Bible Institute in 2018. Delilah’s classmates, co-workers, friends, and family from the east coast to the west coast know her as someone on fire for the Lord, unselfish, helpful, and with the most beautifully brilliant smile. Delilah loved deeply and touched more people on earth than she ever realized. Her passing has brought great sadness because she will be missed, but still a peace in knowing that she is in Her Father’s arms. Delilah is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Pearlie Mae McGill. Delilah is survived by her son, Ian McGill, siblings, Mary Holt (Tony), Truman McGill (Margo), Sonia McGill, Emmanuel McGill (Kimberly) and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and Godchildren.
