Clyde Alston

Clyde slipped from the earthly shores of humanity onto the celestial shores of eternity on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving wife and family. He transitioned from this life unto Glory, committed to God’s will. Clyde was born January 15, 1933, to the late Dennis and Victoria Alston, in Inez, North Carolina. He was one of nine children. Clyde received his early education in Warrenton, North Carolina Public School System. Clyde was reared in a Christian home by his devoted parents. In 1953, he joined the United States Army where he served and received an honorable discharge, Clyde then relocated to New Jersey in the mid 1950’s. Clyde was employed by the United States Postal Service and was blessed to retire after over 35 years of service. Clyde was a diligent and dedicated man to his family, work, and church. Clyde met and married his soulmate Rose in December 1984, whom he loved dearly. God blessed them to share more than 40 years of their lives together. In September 2020, he and his wife Rose relocated to Lawrenceville, GA. Clyde was a faithful servant of God. After moving to New Jersey, Clyde joined Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a faithful member for more than 50 years. On September 21,1969 he was ordained as a deacon. He remained a faithful member until he relocated to Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1997. After his relocation he became a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, Disciple of Christ where he served as a deacon under the current leadership of Bishop Philip D. Marks, Sr. Clyde wore many hats in the church and was a dear friend to many. You could always depend on Clyde to give his honest opinion concerning any situation. He truly loved the Lord and always wanted the best for the ministry. We commend him for his honesty and directness when others would remain silent. Clyde was gifted and talented with his hands. He was able to build, restore, or repair anything. His abilities included electrical, plumbing, and carpentry skills. In his spare time, he was able to gut and remodel a house. Truly this self-learned skill was a gift from God. Clyde was also a licensed barber and worked as a barber after his retirement in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Clyde was preceded in death by his son Melroy; his five brothers; Leon, Archie, Fred, Roger, and Dennis; and his two sisters, Effie, and Rosa. Clyde leaves to celebrate his life and memories: his loving wife Rose, five children; Marlan (Fannie), Melraye (Erik), Myra (Ricky), Duanna (Kenny), and Michelle (Garry); one sister; Lish; mother-in-law, Hollie Rouse; five sister-in-law’s , Ethel Mae, Bessie, Sylvia, Adrienne (Larry) and Kimberlee (Alvin); three brother-in-law’s Joseph (Cleo), Dan and Eric (Cheryl); nineteen grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Pleasant Grove Church family and friends. Celebration of Life Services for Clyde Alston will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 1:00PM. These services will be recorded and streamed live.
