Charlie Frank Clowers

Charlie was born on July 25, 1935 in Jackson, GA. He was an only child born to his father, Mr. Grady Smith Clowers and mother, Ms. Francis Clowers and raised by his grandmother, Ms. Kitty Clowers. Charlie was a quiet young man with a strong and caring heart and would lend a hand to help his family and others. He later moved to Atlanta where he attended Howard High School. It was his move to Atlanta where he met Thelma Holden. On his visits to see his mother he would have to go past her house and he would join Thelma and the neighborhood kids as they hung out in the neighborhood. It wasn’t before long that he knew Thelma was the girl for him. Charlie graduated from high school in July 1953 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force June 1, 1954. It was his opportunity to serve in the U.S. Air Force where he was able to begin his life away from his home and join his lady, Thelma Holden. They wed on April 25, 1956. During his time his time in the U.S. Air Force, Charlie worked in the Avionics Maintenance Squadron. Charlie retired July 1984 from service in the U.S. Air Force after 30 years and three months, , where he earned multiple awards for his service to our country and for his family. After his 30 years of service in the U.S. Air Force, Charlie took a job with Lockheed Martin Corporation in Marietta, GA where he continued his Avionics service in support of commercial aircraft, completing his time with Lockheed in 2001. After his second retirement he continued his service as a full-time husband to his wife, Thelma Clowers and grandfather to his grandchildren. Charlie was a loving and devoted man who took care of everything and everyone. He was the heartbeat of his family making sure all was done. Whatever was needed and however it was needed he not only got it done but made it better. Charlie’s smile was contagious, his spirit and love for everyone was over flowing. Whether it was his childhood friends, classmates, military family, Lockheed family or his family at home. Once you were in the circle, he was loyal to you and did his part to let you know how much you were loved. Whether it was vacationing, talking, listening or planning he showered you with his love. Charlie touched so many lives in so many ways and will truly be missed. He is survived by his wife Thelma, daughter, Beverly (Harold) Campbell and two sons; Ellery (Sherry) and Reginald Clowers. His grandchildren, Marquita Moore Anderson, Thomas O. Moore II, Ellery Clowers Jr, Brandon Umphries, Danny Rumley and Tiffany Jackson; nieces and nephews and sisters-in-laws cousins and friends *** DUE TO COVID-19 MASK ARE REQUIRED IN ARE CHAPEL *** Resting at Gregory B.Levett & Sons Funeral Homes and Crematory,South DeKalb Chapel, 4347 Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur, GA 30034, Tuesday, December 15,2020 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, where services will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 10:00 AM. *** DUE TO COVID-19 MASK ARE REQUIRED IN ARE CHAPEL *** Graveside services will follow at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Dr, Canton, GA 30114 at 2:00 PM will full military honors.
