Charles Nathaniel Counts

Mr. Charles Nathaniel Counts I, 65, departed this life peacefully in his sleep at home on Sunday, March 13, 2016. He was born March 9, 1951 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Claude and Alene W. Counts. Charles’ early education was with the Broward County School District in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He graduated from John F. Kennedy Senior High School in Riviera Beach, Florida in the class of 1969. He met Alnitha “Peggy” Lovett and they were joined in Holy Matrimony on April 18, 1970. Four beautiful children were born to this union: LaSharn, Tamika, Chelsea, and Charles II (Nathan) and were affectionately known as “Charlie’s Angels & Bosley”. Charles attended St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in West Palm Beach, Florida where he sung in the choir. He later attended and joined 5th Avenue Church of God in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he served tirelessly in his roles as Deacon, Pastor’s Aide, Driver for the Bus Ministry, Evangelism and Outreach, choir member, and in any other capacity that he was needed. He was under watch care at Love Life Christian Fellowship Church in Ellenwood, Georgia under Pastor Grace C. Washington. He later fellowshipped at Voices of Praise New Testament Church of God in Lithonia, Georgia. Charles was employed by Southern Bell/Bellsouth/AT&T for 33 years. He worked for 20 years in the Fort Lauderdale area before relocating to Atlanta, Georgia where he worked as a Project Manager for 13 years before retiring in August 2013. Since retiring, Charles enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, traveling, fishing, working in his yard and garden, and serving his community. “Mr. Charles” as he was affectionately called, was the unofficial neighborhood “watchman” for his Princeton Park subdivision. He had a heart of gold, was very giving and hospitable, open-hearted and always willing to lend a helping hand. He leaves to cherish his memory: His lovely wife of 45 years and 11 months, Alnitha, Lithonia, Georgia; Daughters: LaSharn (Herman III) Williams, Conley, Georgia, Tamika (Keith) Lang, McLeansville, North Carolina, Chelsea Counts, Tallahassee, Florida; Son: Charles N. Counts II, Conyers, Georgia.Grandchildren: Malcolm A. Williams, Matthew A. Williams, Ryan L. Counts, Rayna J. Counts, Riley A. Counts, Bailey I. Lang. Parents: Claude and Alene W. Counts, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Mother-in-law: Frances J. Gibson, West Palm Beach, Florida. Brothers: Ricardo E. (Cynthia) Counts, San Antonio, Texas, Darryl E. (Wanda) Counts, Miramar, Florida. Sister: Claudia L. Counts, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Aunts & Uncles: Effie (Gurlester) Belk, Riviera Beach, Florida, Lillian (John) Morris, Charlotte, North Carolina, Rosetta Watkins, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Godchildren: Donnsia “DeeDee” Spry-Turner, Karla R. Culpepper, Marcus Blue. Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Ellsworth (Wilma) Gibson, Gartrell Gibson, Pamela Lovett, Edwin (Monica) Lovett, Janice Gibson.
