Charlean Oglesby

On December 4th, 1956, God sent a gift to the Late Helen Maire Oglesby and James Glenn in the person of Charlean Oglesby. Charlean was a devoted Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Mother, Grandmother aka Granny, Fairy God-Mother, Friend and Coworker. On Tuesday March 26th, 2024, this God-Fearing Beautiful Woman was called to eternal rest. Charlean grew up on the Eastside of Cincinnati, Ohio in the Walnut Hills area. She was the fourth born child of nine. Charlean was born a leader as she was a devoted and loving big and little sister. She had an old soul, as she enjoyed spending her spring and summer school breaks with her great grandmother Grand Estella Smith. Charlean would also enjoy visiting her Granddad William Oglesby upon her arrival at his home he would make homemade fruit pies; peach was her favorite homemade pie. She enjoyed sitting alongside her mother the late Helen Marie Oglesby in the kitchen as she would make hot water cornbread, Charlean would have a tall glass of cold milk ready and waiting to indulge in the savory buttery hot water cornbread fresh out the grease. She had another favorite dessert that her beloved mother made homemade lemon marine pie, that was a staple dessert that was baked only once a year. Charlean attended Frederick Douglass Elementary as she excelled through her classes graduating with outstanding academic achievement. Charlean entered Sawyer junior high school ready to conquer the world. Charlean was in the choir and fell in love with music. She also enjoyed skating on Friday nights in the gym room where comet, would be added to the floor so you wouldn’t slip. After skating all the sawyer crew would head over to the Arcade in Walnut hills. Charlean attended Withrow High School where she continued her love for music, joining the choir. She entered the vocational program during her high school years were at this pivotal time Charlean fell in love with working. She took business courses and landed an opportunity to work with Cincinnati Job Crops as a Typesetter. Charlean graduated with her general education diploma in 1980 and set out on a mission to conquer success. She walked down roads less traveled. Charlean set out on a new opportunity to advance her career relocating to Decatur, Georgia in 1984, She was living life to the fullest. She was determined to conquer whatever came across her path. Charlean was Strong-willed, brave, and a resilient woman. She had integrity and if you knew her you knew this about her. In 1990 a gift from God was given to Charlean in the person of her only child and son Julian Sands. Charlean continued to work hard and share her life with her son. Charlean was on a mission to provide a stable life for herself and her one and only son. With hard work and determination she defined the odds and purchased a house on May 31st, 1996. In 1997 Charlean was offered a position with the City of Atlanta where she navigated through in many positions ranging from Office Manager, Data Analyst Sr and her last role Management Analyst for Watershed Management. Charlean was dictated and driven to providing a comfortable lifestyle with hard work and dedication Charlean Joined Phillips Arena in 2008 as a Concierge for ticket holders. During her career at Phillips Arena now State Farm Charlean got to have special meet and greets with some of her favorite celebrities; The ROCK and Martell Holt was her crush! Idris Elba, Vince McMahon, Chaka Khan and Pattie Labelle. In 2015 Charlean family grew when her grandson Demarie Coron Sands was born. Charlean was so excited; she was right there giving support as a personal Mid-wife! Charlean was so overjoyed that as Demarie grew up, they were two peas in the same pod! When you saw Charlean, you saw Demaire. She loved spending time with her grandson. They would go shopping and out to eat weekly. Charlean potty trained Demaire, Charlean showed Demaire how to save his money and read his bank statements. She didn’t play when it came to her grandbaby! Charlean would tell anybody off about her grandson! Demaire parents know that what granny say that’s what goes. Charlean enjoyed traveling, just not flying. She was a car-rider traveler. Charlean visited Mexico in 2015 on a Family trip with her baby sister Sandra. Charlean took many trips with family and friends. Myrtle Beach, St. Simon Island, Tennessee, Las Vegas and New Orleans. She enjoyed shopping and dining out. Charlean was a fun hearted woman. She had a beautiful spirit, Charlean walked with grace and dignity. She didn’t hold any punches! She told you what she felt, and it didn’t matter anymore. She said what she said! Her Famous Quote: I Don’t give a Damn!! And she meant that. Charlean enjoyed watching her classic iconic TV Shows; Gunsmoke, Andy Giffin, Sanford and son. Charlean would watch 600 lb. life, Paternity Court, Doctor pimple popper, WWE, In the heat of the night, Divorce Court. She enjoyed eating her favorite seafood dishes scallops and shrimp steamed broccoli and potatoes. Charlean would indulge in eating German chocolate cake that was a family favorite that she shared with her siblings and Goddaughter. Charlean held a lot of titles: Mother, Granny, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, Friend. The Main Title will be Ms. Legs!!! Charlean had the most beautiful legs on a woman, she would tell anybody! I know I have beautiful legs! Charlean was preceded in death by her mother and Father the late Helen Maire Oglesby and the late James Glenn. One sister Barbara Oglesby, One Brother Edward Oglesby, One nephew Jack Cody, Two great-niece Emani Angel, Novi Evans and her god granddaughter ShaMaya Spears. Her nephew man’s best friend Midnight Hickman-Oglesby. Two Aunts Wilmae Wright & Margaret Jones. Her one and only Uncle Vertie Oglesby whom she called her pretty uncle. In addition, she leaves to cherish in her memory her Son Julian Sands (Asia L Evans-Sands), her grandson Demaire Sands. Brother Charles Oglesby (Lynda) Charlynn and Lesa. Brother Clarence (Trudy) Rico, Clarence Jr, Dominque, Ne’lsha, Jessica. Brother Gary (Ann) Terrance, Karen. Niece Sandra Oglesby, Sister Karen, Ebony and Tawanna. Sister Charmaretta, Sheena, Stephan. Sister Sandra, Stewart. God daughter ShaRhonda Moore, Tyler & Tyrell Spears. God-Sister Wanda Fleetwood-Lockett. Her Italian Brother Junie Jackson. Dearest Friend Mrs. Charlie Cotton, Vonita Chambliss aka the Bruiser. A host of great nieces & great nephews and cousins.
