Ms. Catherine Perkins

Catherine S. Perkins was born on December 9, 1928 and departed this life on February 1, 2018. She was the only child to the late Percy Smith and late Willie Mae Battle of Monroe, Ga. Catherine accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age at the First A.B Baptist Church in Monroe, Ga. She later moved to Atlanta, GA where she united with Mount Sinai Baptist Church, where she remained until her death. She spent her years there serving in many capacities, that includes the Choir, the Usher Board, the Food Committee and the Willing Workers ministry until her health began to fail about 4 years ago. She was later installed as an Honorary Mother of the Church. She was fortunate enough to find and marry the love of her life, Prince Perkins, who preceded her in death. This union did not produce any children, but it wasn’t because of the lack of love. There was certainly more than enough love for Catherine to share with her Family, Friends and Co-workers. I don’t think she ever missed a Birthday. Her family of cousins, God children, nieces and nephews has certainly been blessed the love Catherine bestowed on them though out their life. Catherine worked a few years as a Registered Nurse, but later was employed by the Internal Revenue Service from which she retired after 20 plus years of service. Catherine spent her life doing basically exactly what she enjoyed doing, as in Traveling, Sewing, but her favorite thing was Baking. If you could tell her what kind of cake you wanted she would bake it for you, but her and some might call, her “Signature Cake” was the “Pound Cake w/Lemon Glaze Icing”. If you knew Catherine at all, you know everything she did was top notch – when she traveled, she went on a Cruise instead of just to Savannah, when she sewed it was a Wedding Dress not just a straight skirt, when she Sang you could hear her pronounced Alto, and when she was using her Awesome Sense of Humor, you Always got it(Laughed.) Catherine leaves to cherish her memory, Cousins, Robert(Amy) Smith, Archie(Carolyn) Smith, Helen Hurst, Barbara Render, Bettye Atwater, Leontyne Lee and a host of other family and friends.
