Mrs. Carolyn Ann Collins

Carolyn Ann Collins, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother was born on July 18, 1964 in Atlanta, Georgia to William Harper (Deborah) & the late Katie Strickland Harper Armstrong. Carolyn was a woman with unmatched work ethic. For over 25 years, she worked as an Inspector on the assembly line at Woodbridge Atlanta Foam in Lithonia. Most recently, she served as a custodian for over 10 years at Tucker High School where she founded Carolyn’s Giving Closet. She was a loving, fun-filled, and compassionate person who loved helping others. Carolyn was very devoted to her students and was committed to making sure that they had their basic needs met. She stocked her closet with snacks, drinks, clothing, shoes, toiletries and other necessities. In addition to taking care of her students, Carolyn also helped her community by rallying doners to assist with providing holiday meals, clothing, and necessities. Carolyn was fortunate to have her work with her Giving Closet recognized by several community and national organizations. She was a guest on the Steve Harvey show and also received awards from various community leaders and associations. The list includes: 2022 One Powerhouse Award from Dr. Loretta Sillah 2019 Unsung Hero's Award from Hank Johnson Congressman for Georgia's 4th district 2019 Phenomenal Woman Award, Pittsburg, PA 2018 Hometown Hero's Honoree Award from AJC International Trailblazer Award Interviewed by 11 Alive news, AJC and other media outlets Carolyn was also inducted into the Gamma Sigma Sigma Sorority as an honorary member and presented with the 2019 Woman of the Year Award Carolyn was a huge Falcons fan and she was recognized by both the Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Hawks for her involvement in the community. She was the life of any party and her love for motorcycles led her to start the Eye Catchaz MC and served as the club’s first president. She had the power to make anyone smile and laugh and an ability to keep a positive attitude no matter the situation. Carolyn leaves behind a loving and devoted husband of 35 years, Steven Collins; two sons, Antonio (Katebra) Harper, and the late Travis Malcom, Jr., a daughter, Sharquetta Brianna Miller (Allen); siblings, Michael Harper (Lithornia), and Linda Harper; granddaughter, Kyleigh Harper; one nephew, Patrick Harper; a niece, S’Tara Harper, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and work family. Special thanks to Nurse Sandra Davis, Dr. Read and all the Emory Midtown doctors that helped Carolyn along her journey, the mayor of Tucker, Ga, Frank Auman, the Cofer Brothers, Rehoboth Baptist Church, and the Magnolia Restaurant in Tucker. “I’m going to fight it until the end”. -Carolyn Collins And indeed, she did just that.
