Mr. Calvin Billingsley

Calvin Billingsley was born in Chambers County, AL on March 24, 1956, to the parentage of the late Annie Grace Billingsley. He received his high school education at Lanier High School in Lanett, Alabama. He also obtained an Associates Degree from Meadows College in Columbus, GA. He professed Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church (Camp Hill, AL). He faithfully fulfilled his calling, serving Christ and his church as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Locust Grove Baptist Church (Columbus, GA). Knowing the immense cost of freedom, Calvin served his country with distinction and honor as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He joined the U.S. Army in 1974, at the age of 17. His military career carried him many places, and in every assignment, he made positive and lasting contributions to the soldiers entrusted in his care. He retired from the armed services in 1984 and began his career in civil service for the military at Ft. Benning, GA. He continued his career in civil service and he mentored other veterans by sharing his story. Calvin remained active, while touching and impacting lives through devoted service in and around his church, community and family. On July 29, 2006, he was united in marriage to Mattie (Mitchell) Billingsley. They have shared a wonderful 15 years together. He was the love of her life. Calvin was equally serious and gregarious. He was stern, but jovial, and engaging to all. He didn’t meet any strangers. His integrity, leadership, strength, determination, guidance, and humor will be greatly missed. His service to his community, men, country and family is greatly appreciated. His love for his children was immense, and his love for his grandchildren was immeasurable. Calvin was a loving father, husband, grandfather and a friend to all. He departed this life on June 22, 2014, at his residence in Marietta, GA, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Grace Billingsley, siblings Tommy Billingsley, James Billingsley, Jimmy Billingsley, Shirley Ann Billingsley and Annie Billingsley. He leaves to mourn, his wife Mattie Faye Billingsley; his children Mrs. Valerie (James) Daniels of Powder Springs, GA, Ms. Charlotte Lynch of Dothan, AL, Ms. Jessica Billinglsey of Bryans Road, MD, Mr. James Larkins of Houston, TX, Mr. Calvin Lemuel (Elaine) Billingsley of Norfolk, VA, Ms. Syretta (Devon) Larkins of Atlanta, GA, his seven grandchildren Patrick Daniels, Ari Daniels, Calvin L. K. Billingsley, Alexander Billingsley, Angel Billingsley, Arius Larkins, Brandon Larkins, Cornelius Larkins and Jakyma Larkins, Jamarrie Larkins, his siblings Mrs. Linda (William) Acres, of Lanett, AL, Widowed Mrs. Angie Billingsley (widow of Tommy Billingsley) of Lanett, AL, Mr. Joey (Vikki) Billingsley of Hinesville, GA, Mr. Sammy (Susan)Billingsley of Columbus, GA, Mrs. Angela (Christopher) McFarlin of Valley, AL, Mr. David (Adrine) Billingsley of Phenix City, AL, Mr. LaShon (Pam) Billingsley of Hinesville, GA, Mr. Nathaniel (Valerie) Billingsley of Madrid, Spain, his two uncles Mr. Roy Huguley of Detriot , MI and Mr. Booker T. Huguley of Camphill, AL, his beloved Goddaughter Ms. Shanpre’ Moody and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
