Callie Mae Summerour

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 Callie Mae Summerour was born on May 28, 1936, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the daughter of Earnest Summerour and Daisy Hayes Summerour. Callie had two sons and three daughters. She died on June 11, 2019, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 83. Ms. Callie was preceded in death by both her parents, brother: Earnest Summerour, sisters: Dorothy Brooks and Barbara Ann Brooks. A mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, friend, Callie Mae Summerour never met a stranger. Callie was to her core a mother. Even if you were not one of Ms. Callie’s five children, you somehow found yourself calling her “Mama” because of her warm and caring nature. She would light up the room with her welcoming smile and positive attitude. Callie Mae Summerour will be greatly missed by all. She was a devoted mother, an avid traveler and a hard worker. She worked and retired from Scientific Atlanta after many years of service. In her retirement years, she drove a taxi and had various other jobs. Callie was not one to sit still. She was always on the go, a true go getter. Callie leave to cherish her memory: Her five children, Rebecca Williams, Calvin Summerour, Manola (Jo Jo) Bell, Donald Summerour and Aleita Ashhurst. Devoted granddaughters, Sherry Summerour, Ebony Brown, Tiffany Trawick, Vaidya Shirley.. grandsons, Aaron Durham Tucker, Maurice Reynolds Bell, Donovan Ashhurst, and great grandchildren: David Brian Summerour, George Weatherly, Jr, Aset Coley, Zaria, Justin, Jacob and Zabrina Trawick. Loving nieces and nephews: Steve Brooks, Betty Cook, Stanley Brooks, Miles Brooks, Telesa Jakes and Tony Brooks. Wonderful friends: Johnnie Mae, Rose, Laura, Gwen, and host of many more loving relatives and friends. Memorial Services will be held at the South DeKalb Chapel of Gregory B.
