Bernice Hill

Bernice Sims was born January 4, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio to Zora Lee & Charles Sims. Mom, Mommy, Granny and Gram as she was so affectionately called, went home to Heaven on May 3, 2024, at the age of 95. She is preceded in death by her parents Zora and Charles, her two sisters Doris and Mildred and her daughter Cindy. She leaves to love and cherish her memory sister Evelyn, children Mary (Marvin), Yvette, Greg (Linda), Larry, Norman, Kenny; her grandsons Stephen, Marvin, Stephen Jr. (Boo), Kevin (Eloise), Kurt (Natalie), Derrick, Justin, Larry Jr. Kenny Jr; granddaughters Jessica and TaChera and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special mention of her loving nephew Clarence. Bernice worked for the Cleveland Public School District as a first-grade teacher’s assistant before working for the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland at St. Timothy Church as the Rectory Coordinator for 25 years where she retired. Bernice was a devout Christian, loving God and her church. She was a very active devoted member, employee and volunteer of St. Timothy’s for over 35 years. Bernice was also very involved in her senior community. Sitting on the Board of the Progressive Action Council, and Vice President of LAC. She was well known and respected by her peers and local government officials. Bernice was passionate about equality and a strong advocate for voting rights, affecting change by helping people register to vote and working the polls for many elections will up into her 80’s. Most notably Bernice was an amazing mom and loving grandmother. Raising her children and some of her grandchildren with the wonderful tools, direction and wisdom God gave her. She loved biting her tongue! Bernice was a phenomenal cook capable of putting a Feast together in no time! She loved flowers and had quite a green thumb! Bernice enjoyed and found great pleasure in coloring, going to lunch with Stephen (her Boo), shopping at Kohls for Vera Wang and spending time with her family enjoying a good meal and making wonderful memories that will be cherished forever!
