Benny Brown

Benny Eugene Brown, “Ben”, was known for his huge personality. He filled up any room he was in with his genuine cantor, huge smile, and right on time jokes. It was impossible to come in contact with him and not leave with a life antidote or something that would make you chuckle later. Benny was born January 29, 1939 in Atlanta Ga. to Mamie Rogers (Brown) and Benny Johnson both whom preceded him in death. He departed this life on Saturday May 6th, 2023 at the age of 84. Benny’s childhood was spent in Duluth Ga. where his family worked as sharecroppers. He worked with his family until his graduation from Bailey Johnson High School in 1956. He continued to work for various farming families in the Duluth area until he moved on to start his career as a truck driver. Bennie worked for several truck lines before his retirement from ABF in 1998. After his retirement he continued to work for Manheim Car Auction until his health would not allow him to continue. Bennie was a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he worked as a Junior Deacon. He attended various churches in the Atlanta area including Holy Springs Baptist Church where he was an active member. Early In life Bennie was married to Missie White from which he had one child and both of them proceeded him in death. Bennie also had a long-term relationship with Ms. Jimmie Lou Rogers from which he had 4 daughters. In 1968 Bennie married his childhood friend Willie Mae Poole and they moved to Decatur Ga. to begin their life together. Bennie and Willie spent time together enjoying various hobbies including riding motorcycles and hosting the occasional fish fry and card parties. Bennie had a full life and also believed that you should help others around you. While is life lessons where firm, he was always there to give you a helping hand when life knocked you down. His giving heart will be missed by those that knew him. Benny leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years Willie Mae Brown; brother Linard (Linda) Emerson; daughters, Myra Lloyd, Penny Gatewood (Terry), Anita Egon, and Janice Brown; Granddaughters, Chantrice Rogers, Tamika Brown, Sonya Rogers, Tonya Rogers and Kellye Lloyd-Kinsey (Jomo); nephews, Dushawn Emerson and Calvin Emerson; nieces Lisa Johnson and Dorzia Harrison; 6 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
