Benjamin Clay Johnson

Benjamin Clay Johnson, affectionately known as “Ben,” was born on August 1, 1948, to the late Adell Grier and Nathan Johnson. He peacefully transitioned from this life to eternal rest on March 14, 2025. A proud graduate of Luther Judson Price High School in Atlanta, Georgia, Ben was a member of the Class of 1966. He was raised in the Joyland community, where he developed a love for sports—excelling in football, track, and golf. Ben was a hardworking and skilled tradesman, holding a CDL and spending many years driving trucks. Over time, he cultivated a variety of talents and hobbies including wallpaper installation, carpentry, landscaping, and painting. Later in life, he discovered a passion for sketching and creating artwork, which he often sold at the Piedmont Art Festival and shared with family and friends. Though reserved in nature, Ben enjoyed good company and meaningful conversations. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and later rededicated his walk with God. After moving into Wheat Street Towers, he found joy in teaching Sunday School at Wheat Street Baptist Church. One of his greatest pleasures was sitting by the window of his 11th-floor apartment, sketching as he gazed out at the Atlanta skyline. Ben leaves behind a legacy of love and creativity. He is survived by his sons, Benjamin D. Johnson and London Johnson; his daughter, Aisha Nacole Johnson; and his beloved grandchildren, Devin Michael Johnson, Dante Christopher Johnson, Raquele Elise Johnson, and Darrion Johnson. He is also survived by his siblings, Emma Thornton (Ellis), Lizzie Crowder, Jessie Crowder Weatherspoon (Mike), Pamela Tillman (Ruben), and Christopher Crowder (Donna), along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adell Grier and Nathan Johnson, and his siblings, Nathan Timothy Johnson, Herbert Crowder, and OciNeil Vickers. Though Ben is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His presence, wisdom, and warmth will be deeply missed. May he find eternal peace in the loving embrace of God and be joyfully reunited with those who have gone before him. Services entrusted to Gregory B.
