Barbara Manigault

Barbara Jean Manigault, was born on December 19, 1940, in Lavonia, Georgia, to Warren C. and Mattie J. Washington. On Saturday, November 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, God called Barbara to her final resting place at the age of 83 at Piedmont Rockdale Hospital. Barbara graduated from Franklin County High School in Carnesville, Georgia. Later after graduation, Barbara moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she later met and married Richard Allen Manigault, together they were blessed with one child, Margaret (Manigault) Watson. Barbara’s employment career includes, American Van Lines, Rich’s Warehouse, Emory Hospital and many others over the years until she retired. During her younger years while in Lavonia, Georgia, Barbara attended and was baptized at Greater Hope Baptist Church together with her parents and siblings. She also attended Greater Bethany Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia and after moving with her daughter and son-in-law, she joined Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers, Georgia and has been a member until her death. Barbara enjoyed life to the fullest as she loved traveling, fishing, playing BINGO, and she was a serious card player! She was a devoted member of a few social clubs to include “The Soul Streakers” and “The P.O.S.S.E”. Being a part of these organizations gave her the opportunity to travel all over the world. Barbara had a love for sports especially watching her favorite football team the Atlanta Falcons which she and her husband Richard, were season ticket holders to all the Atlanta Falcons games for many years. She never missed watching an Atlanta Braves game either. And Barbara could not miss out on attending her grandson Rashaud sport games. You could hear her cheering in the stands. All of the kids and parents called her “Grandma”. Barbara will be greeted in Heaven with open arms by her husband, Richard Allen Manigault; parents, Warren and Mattie Washington; brother, William Kayjasper Washington; sister, Carolyne A. Williams; brother-in-law, W.B. Shealer; grandparents, Bill and Hattie Mize; brother-in-law, John Henry Middleton, Sr. (Dot). Barbara leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Margaret Ann Watson (Allen “David”) of Conyers, Georgia; grandson, Rashaud Allen Ferrell, of Covington, Georgia; sister, Martha Shealer of Lavonia, Georgia; brother, James Washington of Decatur, Georgia; brother-in-law, Moses Middleton (Levonia) of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Sheppard Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Hazel Washington of Gainesville, Georgia; stepchildren, Montine Manigault, Wanda Alexander, Leroy Jeffries, Rosa Cain, and Danita Anderson; special friends, Louise Barnett, Mary Grant, Millie Ramsey, and Esther Ward; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
