Obituary With overwhelming sadness, the family of Barbara Crosby announces her passing at age 71, on April 11, 2025, in Decatur, Georgia. Born on November 28, 1953, in Birmingham, Alabama, Barbara lived a life marked by strength, faith, and deep devotion to her family. Barbara pursued higher education with determination and pride, earning degrees from both the University of Alabama at Birmingham (B.S.) and Mercer University in Atlanta, Ga (M.S.). Her academic journey reflected her intelligence and pioneering spirit—qualities that would define her throughout her life. A woman of unwavering faith, Barbara was a lifelong lover of Jesus Christ and a member of Greenforest Community Baptist Church. Her spiritual foundation was a guiding force in her life and a source of comfort and inspiration to those around her. Barbara’s greatest joy came from her family. She was the proud mother of four children: James M. Crosby, Melanie Campbell, Luretha Crosby Guard, and Kendra Crosby. Her legacy continues through her thirteen beloved grandchildren: Kendrick, Jacob, Jeremiah, James Jr., Xavier, Bailey, Kyleigh, Jordyn, Jonas, Luke, Imani, Melany, and Jade. Each one held a special place in her heart and brought immense pride to her life. She shared bonds with her siblings—Jatonia, Debra, Maurice, and George—who knew well the depth of her love and the strength of her convictions. Barbara also carried cherished memories of those who preceded her in death: mother, Texanna Anthony; father, Cornelius Huey; siblings, Santa Smith and Larcarnley Hardy Sr.; spouse, Eddie Crosby; Auntie Mary Fair; and her beloved Grandmother Annie Holmes Huey, lovingly known as “Big Mama”. All of whom will meet her in eternity. Known for being intelligent and independent with a headstrong nature that never wavered in the face of adversity, Barbara was also quietly imaginative—a dreamer more than she ever let on. Her resilience was matched only by the love she poured into those closest to her. To Barbara, family was not just important—it was everything.
