Walk In The Footsteps of Augustine “Tines” Dupre Born on May 28, 1928 in Baraderes, Haiti. Augustine was the eldest of seven children. Very early on, she returned to Port-au-Prince to seek a better living. She was often called Tines or Grandma by her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and loved ones. Augustine who died at 94 years old is classified as being amongst the strongest according to Moses’s expression in Psalm 90. She not only poured out her love to her own but to other children in the family. She gave birth to Denise, Michaelle, Martha, Yolette, and Eline. Magalie her late brother’s eldest child who she raised since infancy, considers her as her own mother. Today, when we take the time to look at Augustine’s life, she challenges us and invites us to reflect on the legacy she has left us. So I want, rather, I'm proud to say to everyone: Let's walk in the footsteps of Tines. First, to walk in the footsteps of Tines means living a life in harmony with everyone. Augustine loved her whole family wholeheartedly, to the point that despite her precarious situations, everyone was welcomed at her home. Wherever she went, she was content, and lived a simple life. Did she notice anything abnormal? You wouldn't know because she doesn't talk about what did not concern her. In addition, to walk in the footsteps of Tines means living a simple life. For Tines, living a simple life is never complaining about her situation. Whether living in Haiti, Canada, Boston or Georgia she remained content. We live in a world where the norm is to pretend; however, Tines was not one to pretend. She always remained humble, kind, and loving. By living like this, we remember not to lose the sense of what is real and precious about life. We remember not to forget the simple and meaningful things that comes with living. Augustine had no room for material things. She was content with what she had. When she lived in Haiti, she lived with heart of gratitude and thankfulness. Her recipes were her solace and a means to nurture her children. Lastly, to walk in the footsteps of Tines means to be a fighter. Tines was been a tough worker all her life. She was a very courageous woman. She never complained about her fate. She remained a virtuous woman; she got up early, and went to bed late to support her children. As a fighter, she looked death in the face several times and death lowered her eyes. Until her last breath, she was still fighting. Nobody knew that she was going to take her final rest that Sunday, May 29 because in the morning, she gave signs of life. Alas since death is a must, Augustine, Tines, went through it. What courage! Today, Grandma, you crossed the river. You are on the other side. We will never forget you for everything that you are and for everything you have done for us. As we greet your departure to return to your father's house. We promise to you, to continue walking in the footsteps you have left us. Augustine loved all her children, all her grandchildren and all her great-grandchildren. Augustine is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Denise, her brothers Sidney, Dupre, and Lutest, and her sisters Marie and Antoinette. Augustine is survived by: Her children and (spouses): Michaelle Dupre, Martha Dupre, Yolette Dupre, Magalie Dupre Georges, Eline Dupre Eugene (Georges Edouard Eugene) Eighteen grandchildren and (spouses): Stanley Williams Saint-Hilaire (Guerdy), Tamara Aretist, Sherley Mary Romulus (Moise Romulus), Regine Joseph (Junior Joseph), Tommy Dupre-Estime (Megan), Valerie Dupre-Estime, Farrah Escarpeta (Troy Escarpeta), Winslou Lassegue (Nancy), Shenandoah Lassegue Gilles (Garencha Giles), Lougor Lassegue (Amber), Klerlie Raymond, Jean Baptiste Georges, Marc Anthony Georges, Carl Giovanni Georges, Gregory Georges, Cliff Jorginiouh Eugene (Ariel), Edouardo Kerry Eugene (Jessica), and Elin Wendy Eugene (Jayna) Twenty Great-grandchildren : Sarhyna Saint Hilaire, Berlyn Franck, Glory Moika Romulus, Janice Erica Joseph, Isabelle Emma Joseph, Oliver Dupre- Estime, Laurent Dupre- Estime, Mackenzie Escarpeta, Justice Escarpeta, Windia Lassegue, Joshua Lassegue, Eli Anthony Lassegue, Kai Louis Lassegue, Adorah Leani Gilles, Adaliah Gilles, Zander Louis Gilles, Loucas Lassegue, Ava Chloe Eugene, Austin Chadwick Eugene, and Aria Londyn Eugene. One sister Paulette Simon, and many more nieces and nephews to count. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
