Anita Strozier Johnson

THE LIFE OF A LEGEND SUNRISE: Anita Strozier Johnson, daughter of the late Willie and Lizzie Mae Strozier, was born on November 5, 1945, in Luthersville, Meriwether County, Georgia. At an early age, she accepted Christ and was baptized, beginning a lifelong journey of faith and service. Anita began her education at Luthersville Elementary School and graduated from Greenville High School. Driven by a passion for learning and a desire to grow, she continued her education at Fort Valley State University. She later earned both an Associate Degree and a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Carver Bible College. MID-DAY: On July 28, 1973, Anita was united in Holy Matrimony with the late William Robert Johnson. In 1972, under the leadership of her beloved brother, the late Reverend Rufus Strozier, Anita became a member of Little Mount Gilead Baptist Church. There she faithfully served the Lord for more than five decades, giving generously of her time, talents, and heart. Anita embraced every opportunity to serve God’s people. She found tremendous joy in nurturing young people as the Youth and Young Adult Choir Director and in teaching both youth and adult Sunday School classes. She also served with excellence as Director of the Black History Committee, where she passionately celebrated the achievements and rich heritage of African Americans. Her faithful service extended to the Church Anniversary Committee, the Trustee Ministry, and the role of Financial Secretary. Whatever assignment was placed in her hands, Anita carried it out with diligence, integrity, and a spirit of excellence. Professionally, Anita devoted 36 years of faithful service to Sears, Roebuck and Company, where she retired as a Data Processing Supervisor. Yet retirement did not slow her down. A lifelong learner with an unwavering servant’s heart, she continued making meaningful contributions in various work places. She served as Treasurer and Alumni Secretary at Carver Bible College. Her love for education inspired her to become a substitute teacher, positively impacting students in several metropolitan Atlanta school systems, including Fulton County Schools and Cobb County Schools. Under the leadership of Reverend Flinn Luster at Christ for All Church, she faithfully served as Secretary of the Scholarship Committee, helping open doors of opportunity for future generations. Anita later became Secretary and Treasurer at the Harriet G. Darnell Senior Center where she formed many great relationships. Outside of her many responsibilities, Anita truly enjoyed life. She loved baking sweet treats, bowling with friends, gardening, coloring, participating in Toastmasters International, and above all, reading and studying her Bible. She cherished spending quality time with family and friends and had a special gift for making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. She delighted in seafood, enjoyed fine dining, and believed no wonderful meal was complete without a serving of ice cream. SUNSET: Anita often shared that she still had “work to do.” Even during the final chapter of her earthly journey, her life remained a testimony of grace, faith, and perseverance. God surrounded her with a remarkable village of family and friends whose love sustained and comforted her. Throughout the years, Anita lovingly gained daughters through the special bonds she nurtured. During her sunset season, LaWanda Patterson, Eileen Edwards, Tonya Moore, and Sharon Curtis-McWell faithfully poured love, compassion, and unwavering support into her life. Their devoted care reflected the very love Anita had shown to so many throughout her own life. Then, on the peaceful morning of July 6, 2026, having fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith, God, in His infinite wisdom and perfect love, whispered, “Well done, My good and faithful servant.” He gently called Anita from labor to reward, and she entered into eternal rest. Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of faith, wisdom, service, generosity, and unconditional love will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her beloved nephew, Cyrell Strozier, whom she lovingly considered and affectionately called her son; her devoted sister, Dorothy Strozier Thomas, and nephew, Patrick Thomas; her sisters-in-law Francis Strozier, Amy Strozier, Leona Amey and Carolyn Johnson; cherished friends that became sisters: Vernell Howse, Dorothy King, Jansina Sims, Liz Stokes, and Darlene Jordan; a lifelong friend and confidant, Rev. Paul Harvey; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and dear friends. The seeds Anita planted through her faith, compassion, encouragement, and faithful service will continue to bear fruit for generations to come. Her life was truly a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love a gift that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. Services entrusted to Gregory B.
