Mr. Alonzo Wilson

Alonzo Wilson, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, transitioned from this life on April 29, 2024, at the age of 74. He leaves a legacy of love, service, and commitment to his family and community. Alonzo was born on April 15, 1950, in Statesboro, Georgia, to the late Myra Chapple and Woodrow Wilson, Sr. Growing up in the heart of Georgia, Alonzo's parents and grandparents instilled values of hard work, integrity, and compassion. Alonzo's commitment to service and brotherhood was evident throughout his life. He was a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he found camaraderie and purpose in serving others. He was also an active member of Friendship Community Church of Atlanta, where he served on the Finance Committee and the Food Ministry, embodying his faith through acts of kindness and generosity. Alonzo's dedication to his profession as a pharmacist was unparalleled. Graduating as the Valedictorian of William James High School in 1967 and earning his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia in 1973, he achieved remarkable success during a time of racial integration. His career spanned various hospitals and pharmacies, including Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, Hills Pharmacy in Decatur, Drug Emporium in Decatur, and CVS in Gwinnett County. For 40-plus years, he provided care and compassion to his community, leaving a lasting impact on all those he served. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Alonzo's greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband of 36 years to his beloved wife, Vanessa L. Wilson of Stone Mountain, Georgia. Together, they shared a bond of love and mutual respect that inspired all who knew them. Alonzo was a cherished brother to Jerry Wilson (Diana) of Ellenwood, Georgia; Judy Anthony (Albert) of Savannah, Georgia; Johnnye Rogers (Kirk) of Rincon, Georgia; Woodrow Wilson, Jr. (Deceased); and Gloria Wilson of Savannah, Georgia. He was blessed with two godchildren, Raven and Dorian Young of Lithonia, Georgia, whom he cherished deeply. Al, as he was known by those close to him, was a source of joy to other family members, including brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In his leisure time, Alonzo enjoyed various hobbies, including sports, listening to music, traveling with his beloved wife, gardening, playing dominoes, and watching game shows. His travels took him to countless domestic and international destinations, with some of his favorites including Hawaii, Alaska, California, Puerto Rico, Niagara Falls, Italy, Greece, Aruba, Mexico, Germany, Jamaica, Antigua, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Alonzo's legacy is one of integrity, kindness, and humility. His life was a testament to the power of love and service, touching the lives of all who knew him. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come, a beacon of light in a world that often needs it most. A public viewing will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 12:00 Noon to 7:00 p.m. at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home, 331 North Clarendon Avenue, Scottdale, Georgia. Alonzo's life will be celebrated on May 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Community Church of Atlanta, 4141 Old Fairburn Road, Atlanta, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Larry Leroy Golden Memorial Scholarship Fund. Though he may no longer walk among us, Alonzo's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Rest in peace, dear Alonzo, knowing that your legacy of love and service will endure for eternity. Celebration of Life Service for Alonzo Wilson will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
