Addie Mary Slade

Mrs. Addie M. Slade of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, at the age of eighty-nine. She was born June 13, 1936, in Starkville, Mississippi, to her parents, Rufus and Q.T. Kelley. She was the younger sibling of two, and her mother affectionately gave her the nickname “baby sister.” Only a year and a few months older, her brother Willie could only say “Boo,” which earned her a permanent nickname that is forever cemented in everyone’s hearts. Addie was a graduate of the 16 Section Rural School in Starkville, Mississippi. She continued her educational endeavors, obtaining a two-year degree from Mary Holmes Junior College in West Point, Mississippi. A wife and proud mother of three at the time, Addie had a desire to continue her educational pursuits in Atlanta, Georgia, where she successfully completed a certification program at Beaumont School of Vocational Nursing in 1963. After several years of caring for others at Grady Hospital, Addie discovered her true passion for sewing, which led to a fulfilling career spanning over forty years as a seamstress. She worked tirelessly creating custom draperies for various businesses, including Barter & Galambos and JCPenney. Her keen eye for detail and meticulousness were hallmarks for designing magnificent window displays enjoyed by all. Already a loving mother of five, Addie met and married her life partner, Mr. Oscar Slade, in 1973. When she was not working, she enjoyed spending time with and talking to her good friends, including Ms. Geneva, Ms. Jeanette, Ms. Annette, Wan Sun, Ms. Sharon Wilson, Ms. Teddy, and Sut. She loved to cook, watch wrestling, sit on the porch endlessly chatting with family members, and travel. Addie is survived by her beloved sons, Robert Williams, Carlos Mendeza Williams, Ramon Miguel Williams and wife Vernetta Williams, and son in law Phillip Vincent Mobley Sr. Grandchildren that survive her Kevin Williams, Rashad Curry, and wife Mishe` Benjamin Curry, Whitney Williams, Akecia Rounsaville and husband Robert Rounsaville, Phillip Mobley Jr and wife Eboni Mobley, Trayvon Williams, Shona Williams, her great grandchildren include Aiden Williams, Kyla Williams, Kameron Curry, Raia Curry, and Ever Mobley. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Oscar Slade; her cherished daughter, Jean Mobley; her comical son, Ronald Williams; her precious great grandson, Emerson Mobley; her adoring parents, Rufus and Q.T. Kelley; her amazing older brother, Wille Rufus Kelley; and her wonderful sister-in-law, Helen Kelley. Addie’s memory will be forever treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of being a devout Christian, kindness, generosity, and unwavering optimism will continue to inspire those who loved her.
